Head to Union for the E. Oregon Livestock Show
UNION — The 117th Eastern Oregon Livestock Show is in full swing this week and this year’s theme is “Let’s Stirrup Some Fun.” Activities include 4-H and FFA shows that culminate in a livestock auction on June 8 at 8 a.m., the Ed Miller Xtreme Bull Riding event on June 6 at 6:30 p.m., and the Main Street Parade at 2 p.m. June 7.
The PRCA rodeo action and pari-mutuel horse racing continue June 7-9 with events starting at 4 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
Also, an adult dance at the EOLS clubhouse happens after the rodeo on Friday and Saturday nights.
Tickets are $20 adults and $15 for ages 6-12 at the gate for the bull riding and rodeo events.
Fiddlers plan show in Joseph
JOSEPH — The Blue Mountain Old Time Fiddlers will have a show on Saturday, June 8, at the Hurricane Creek Grange, 82930 Airport Lane.
Dinner will be served at 5 p.m. ($16) and the music starts at 6 p.m. Admission is $5 at the door, $4 for association members or free for ages 12 and younger. For information, call Robyn Burns at 503-423-7730.
Historical Society meets June 8
IMBLER — The Union County Historical Society will have its monthly meeting on Saturday, June 8, at the Historic Imbler Methodist Church at 120 Ruckman Ave. Participants are invited to bring a sack lunch to enjoy at noon before the meeting at 1 p.m.
Courthouse music series starts June 6
ENTERPRISE — Chris Baron kicks off this summer’s Courthouse Concert Series in Enterprise on June 6. The series runs Thursdays from 5:30-7 p.m. through Aug. 29.
He’ll also play the day before, June 5, at Terminal Gravity starting at 6 p.m.
Baron describes his sound as “funky folk.” When solo, he plays acoustic guitar and kick drum. A full band adds an upright bass, cello and drums.
Barley Brown’s celebrates 26 years
BAKER CITY — Barley Brown’s Brewpub, 2200 Main St., celebrates its 26th anniversary with live music, beer and food on June 7 and June 8. Church Street will be closed between Main and Resort streets, and entry starts at 2 p.m. both days. Music starts at 7 p.m. Friday with the Ben Breiding Band, and continues at 3 p.m. Saturday with Vebeka Amador and Sum People.
Brass Fire plays monthly in Hermiston
HERMISTON — Brass Fire will play on the first Thursday of each month at The Pheasant Blue Collar Bar & Grill in Hermiston, and has additional performances planned in the area as well.
The Thursday shows run from 6-8 p.m. Dates are June 6, July 11 (instead of July 4), Aug. 1 and Sept. 5.
The band also will perform June 15, 12:30-4 p.m., at Victory Square Park in Hermiston for a community memorial service and live butterfly release sponsored by Good Shepherd Health Care System. Then, on June 17, Brass Fire will play at the Boardman Marina Park for the Music in the Park series from 7-8 p.m.
Pride throughout La Grande
LA GRANDE — Pride Month kicks off in La Grande on June 4 with Pride Family Fun Day at the Riverside Park Pavilion from 4-8 p.m., organized by the Eastern Oregon LGBTQ+ Coalition. Eastern Oregon Center for Independent Living will host a series of virtual panel discussions for EOCIL PRIDE throughout June. They are seeking panelists to share experiences on a wide range of topics, to include:
- June 5, 3-4 p.m.: Intergenerational Panel — a guided dialogue between different generations within the LGBTQ+ community.
- June 12, 11 a.m.-noon: Activist/Organizer Panel — a discussion to the trials and triumphs between community organizers and LGBTQ+ activists.
- June 12, 3-4 p.m.: Chosen Family — the concept of chosen families, the struggle of losing the traditional family, and the celebration of building new families.
- June 20, 11 a.m.-noon: Substance Abuse — the impact of substance abuse on the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
- June 20, 3-4 p.m.: Spirituality — the loss and reimagining of spirituality in relation to 2SLGBTQIA+ identities.
- June 26, 11 a.m.-noon: Genderexpansive Panel — the lived experience of people with expansive gender identities.

Last chance to see ‘She Loves Me’
LA GRANDE — Eastern Oregon University invites you to step back in time to 1936 in Budapest, Hungary, for the musical “She Loves Me.”
The cast of 14 includes both EOU students and community members.
Shows are at 7 p.m. June 6 and June 7, and June 8 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Tickets are $15 general, $10 for seniors/military and free for EOU students with ID. The theater is limited to 95 seats. Although some tickets may be available at the door, advance purchases are encouraged via eou.edu/theatre or by calling 541-962-3757.
Live music coming to OK Theatre
ENTERPRISE — Caleb Klauder, Reeb Willms and the Country Band will perform an evening of honky tonk music Friday, June 7, 7 p.m. at the OK Theatre, 208 W. Main St.
According to the OK’s website, Klauder and Willms are “known to roots music fans across the globe for their soulful harmonies, driving dance tunes, classic original songs and commitment to the raw truth of rural American music.”

Power House hosts Caravan of Glam
WALLA WALLA — A flamboyant cabaret featuring drag, burlesque, acrobatics and comedy will be staged at the Power House Theatre, 111 N. Sixth Ave.
Caravan of Glam is Friday, June 7, 7 p.m. Reserved seats are $30-35 for adults and $20 for students.
The show was formed in 2013 and appeared on “America’s Got Talent” in 2015. In addition, it was featured in the documentary film, “Burlesque: Heart of the Glitter Tribe.”

Hermiston bookstore hosts activities
HERMISTON — A pair of upcoming events caters to both children and families at The Next Chapter Bookstore, 1000 S. Highway 395.
Animal Friends is the topic for the story time on Saturday, June 8, at 11 a.m. Join Alexis McCarthy as she reads three books and leads a craft activity — and leave with a sweet treat. Admission is free. Although designed for children up to age 9, all are welcome.
And for a chance to try out demo card/board games and enjoy snacks, attend Family Game Night on June 14, 5-8 p.m. The cost is $5 for singles or $10 for a family. Also, participants will receive a 15% discount for game purchases.

ARLINGTON — The Arlington Vendors Market is underway for the 2024 season. The upcoming event is Saturday, June 8, 2-7 p.m. at the Arlington Mall parking lot, in downtown. It continues on the second Saturday of each month through October.

Tickets on sale for Wild West Beerfest
PENDLETON — Food, music, games, vendor booths and plenty of beer is featured during the Wild West Beerfest. Presented by the Pendleton City Club, the 21 and older event is June 15, noon to 9 p.m. at Roy Raley Park, 1205 SW Court Ave.
The event raises money to support youth events and activities in Pendleton. Regular entry is $15, which includes a commemorative glass, or $20 with four beer tokens. Additional tokens are $2 each or 12 for $20. Entry for non-drinkers is $10.

Summer dance camps set in La Grande
LA GRANDE — Beckie’s Studio of Dance, 110 Depot St., is planning several dance camps this summer. Here’s the schedule:
- June 10-13: Story Book Dance Camp for ages 3½ to 6, 8 a.m. to noon. Cost is $125.
- June 10-13: Dance Sampler Camp (ballet, tap, hip hop, tumble) for ages 6½ to 9, 1-4 p.m. Cost is $150.
- June 17-20: Dance Sampler Camp (ballet, tap, jazz, acro/tumble) for grades four to six, 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is $150.
- June 17-20: Dance Intensive Camp (ballet, tap, jazz, leaps, turns) for middle school and high school, 1-3 p.m. Cost is $150.

Monthly event planned at the grange
JOSEPH — The Hurricane Creek grange will have its monthly breakfast on Saturday, June 8, 7-11 a.m. The meal of pancakes, meat, eggs, biscuits and gravy, juice and coffee is a suggested donation of $10.
The grange is located at the intersection of Hurricane Creek Road and Airport Lane.
Poker run revs up in Condon
CONDON — It’s almost time to get revved up for the Ride for Dad ATV Poker Run. The event is June 15 with participants meeting at 8 a.m. at the Condon Elks Lodge, 117 S. Main St. — before departing on a thrilling ride through the historical landscapes of Gilliam County. It concludes with dinner at the lodge.
Tickets are $40 per person with a $10 buy-in for poker. The fundraiser benefits Camp Meadowood Springs, a speech and hearing camp for children.

Calling young writers and storytellers
ENTERPRISE — Young writers who will enter grades five to 12 in the fall of 2024 are invited to register for Youth Summer Fishtrap June 24-28 at Fishtrap, 107 W. Main St.
The program will be led by teacher and poet Cameron Scott and Fishtrap Writer-in-Residence, Jason Graham.
Youth entering grades five to eight will meet from 8:30-11:30 a.m. with instructors Cameron Scott and Amy Fairchild. This immersive workshop is titled “Heart of Gold: Acting and Writing Truthfully Under Imaginary Circumstances.”
Youth entering grades nine to 12 will meet from 12:30-3:30 p.m. with Jason Graham (aka MOsely WOtta) for “a week of exploration, boundary pushing and connection.”
Summer Fishtrap Youth Workshops have a sliding-scale payment option from $25 to $225. This fee does not include meals and lodging for the week. Register at fishtrap.org.
Vacation Bible School planned for June

Heritage Museum resumes history talks
BAKER CITY — The Speaker Series at Baker Heritage Museum resumes Tuesday, June 11 when Rocky Brown will speak on the still visible rock work of the Chinese from the 1800s in Baker County.
Friends of the Baker Heritage Museum present the event free and open to the public. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the talk begins at 6:30 p.m. in the museum ballroom on the second floor.

Thadd’s Place plans golf tourney
JOHN DAY — Thadd’s Place will host a fundraising golf tournament on June 29 at the John Day Golf Course. It starts at 8 a.m., and a tri-tip dinner will be provided at 4 p.m. for golfers or by donation for non-golfers.

Scholarships available for Dulcimer Week
JOSEPH — A full scholarship is available for Wallowa County residents to attend the 12th annual Dulcimer Week in the Wallowas, a mountain dulcimer learning camp held at Wallowa Lake. The scholarship covers class fees, a rental dulcimer if needed, and lunch and dinner throughout the week.
Activities start on Sunday, June 30, and classes are held Monday through Friday, July 1-5.
Anyone who would like to learn to play the dulcimer is invited to apply. If needed, a dulcimer can be provided. The camp is for adults, but young people under age 18 can be considered if accompanied throughout the week by an adult. Applications are posted at www.wallowadulcimer.com/scholarships.
