JOSEPH — For 20 years the Mountain High Broncs and Bulls event has brought high-quality rodeo entertainment to Wallowa County for free thanks to sponsors and volunteers.
The event will be Saturday, June 15 at the Harley Tucker Memorial Arena, 405 W. Wallowa Ave. The pre-show begins at 4:30 p.m. and the main event is at 5 p.m.
Lee Daggett, Wallowa County native, experienced Pro-Rodeo announcer, Mountain High founding member and current member of the board of directors, emphasizes their central mission: “MHBB is committed to delivering a captivating and cost-free experience for all, with every sponsor dollar directly contributing to the hosting of our event.”
The leadership of the Mountain High Broncs and Bulls are volunteers dedicated to preserving and promoting the heritage of this western tradition while creating community and having a whole lot of fun. In addition to Daggett, the team includes Jeffrey Wecks, Vixen Wecks, Ron Hall, Todd and Billi Jo Oberg and Susan Gilstrap.
Attracting world champions and nationally ranked rodeo participants from around the west, Mountain High presents rodeo events as well as wild horse racing. Dedicated to empowering youths in the community, the organization includes action-packed youth events.
Daggett said that by including events for local kids, they hope to inspire future generations to continue this community rodeo tradition.
The clown is an essential element of any rodeo and this year organizers are excited to bring Kinzie Robins, The Lady Clown, to Broncs and Bulls as the first female rodeo clown to participate. Robins is one of very few women rodeo clowns working today.
The award-winning Wallow County Mountain High Drill Team, comprised of local women, will again kick off the festivities. And this year’s announcer is Cody Woods from Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Many local and regional vendors will have food and drink for sale. Support of these vendors and all sponsors is key to maintaining this free event, organizers said, and attendees and community members are encouraged to support these businesses.
