First Friday art shows open July 5

The show “Towards Home: The Art of Gary Ernest Smith” continues at Crossroads Carnegie Art Center.

BAKER CITY — Art galleries and shops across town stay open late on the first Friday of the month for an art walk featuring new works by local and regional artists. Here’s a look at the stops.

Royal Artisan

1912 Main St.

Most Popular

Royal Artisan will feature ceramics and 2D art by Alethia Brewer, and music by D’Club L’Eveque, starting at 5:30 p.m.

Sweet Wife Baking

2028 Main St.

The shop features Dennis Goodwin, a self-taught artist who works in oil, acrylic and collage. He said he primarily paints portraits, but will “paint any subject that I’m interested in.” His show opens at 5:30 p.m.

Churchill Hall Pass Gallery

3451 Broadway St.

Local artist Doug Darlington will show his original paintings at Churchill starting Friday, 5:30-8 p.m. Darlington creates impressionist and abstract landscapes.

Also, Churchill’s Room 31 Gallery features a selection of artwork.

Crossroads Carnegie Art Center

2020 Auburn Ave.

Crossroads Carnegie Art Center continues “Towards Home: The Art of Gary Ernest Smith” on First Friday, July 5, with live music and a drawing for a small original painting.

This retrospective is a culmination of Smith’s work that depicts Baker County — the fields, the ranches, the livestock, the mountains and the people. “Towards Home” opened in May, and continues through July 21.

Smith will be at Crossroads for a book signing and discussion on July 27 from 10 a.m. to noon.

The co-op will feature drawings and pastels by Maura Hammack from 4-7 p.m.
