BAKER CITY — If you want to hear samples of Warren Dunes’ music before their show on Friday, July 12, Julia Massey has a suggestion: search for “Warren Dunes band.”
Otherwise, the online search may well lead to information about Warren Dunes, the state park in Michigan that inspired the band’s name because “that’s where the guys grew up,” Massey said.
The Seattle-based band will play at Churchill School, 3451 Broadway St., on July 12. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance at churchillbaker.com or $20 at the door.
The trio is Massey and brothers Jared and Dominic Cortese.
It’s a family project — Massey and Jared are married, and she said Dominic is quick to point out that she knew him first because they played in a band together.
Warren Dunes has been together for about six years, although the brothers “played together for decades,” she said.
On stage, Jared plays the guitar and joins on vocals, Dominic is the drummer, and Massey sings and plays two keyboards.
At the same time.
“It’s so fun,” she said.
On her left is a bass keyboard, and to her right is a traditional keyboard. During a show, she faces the audience and stretches her arms to the sides to play the keys.
She describes their sound as “post-modern beach music.”
“We’re playing music you can dance to,” she said.
They play all originals, and their Baker City show is in the middle of a “robust tour” through Oregon, Idaho and Washington.
They released their second album, titled “Aquamarine,” in May.
Warren Dunes played at Boise’s Treefort Music Fest in March 2024 and stopped in Baker City to visit Churchill School on their way back to Seattle.
Now they’re coming back, this time to the stage.
“We’d heard from a friend who played there that it was a magical location,” she said.
