ENTERPRISE — Wallowa County’s county fair begins Friday, Aug. 2. The robust schedule of events continues through Aug. 10 and promises a fun old-fashioned fair experience for everyone.
Established in 1907, the Wallowa County Fair continues to be “… a place where youth and adults can learn and display their talents,” according to the Official Fair Premium Guide. The 2024 theme is “Stars, Stripes & Warm Summer Nights.”
The fair board describes it as a community event where people can meet, make new friends and discuss what is happening throughout the county. County residents are encouraged to enjoy and even participate in the events offered: Junior Rodeo, Horse Show, Dog Show, 4-H competitions and open class exhibits.
Events
This year’s fair kicks off with the Junior Rodeo on Friday, Aug. 2 at 9 a.m. The rodeo is a two-day event for youths 18 and under. Next up, the Horse Show and exhibit begins Monday, Aug. 5 and continues all week. 4-H competitions are held throughout the week. County residents of all ages — junior youth through Golden (senior citizens) — are encouraged to showcase their skills in the many open class exhibits.
The fair will conclude with Family Day on Aug. 10. Games on the grass and balloon scramble, pee wee showmanship and the FFA barbecue round out the week. The final event is the 4-H/FFA Fat Stock Sale beginning at 3 p.m.
Food booth in full operation
The food booth renovation is one of the projects the Wallowa County Fair Board has been working on this year. The Joseph FFA had a hand in helping with this renovation. The new and improved booth will be open throughout the fair, offering food and drinks to all.
4-H Fair Court
Presiding over this year’s fair is the 2024 4-H court: Elli Bates, Linden Arentsen, Savanna Rynearson and Ella Hillock.
