PENDLETON — Nearly two dozen works of seven artists are featured in the newest exhibit at Pendleton Center for the Arts, “Contemporary Asian and Asian American Art: From the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation.”
According to a press release from PCA Executive Director Roberta Lavadour, the pieces were selected for their range of imagery, styles and printmaking techniques. It is the seventh collaborative series with the Schnitzer Foundation.
The exhibit draws on the curatorial work of Chang Tan, associate professor of art history and Asian studies, and the Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State. Her exhibition, “Global Asias,” featured 45 works by 15 artists and traveled to other large museums across the United States.
In addition to featuring artists with roots in China, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Americas, the works display a range of printmaking and papermaking techniques, including lithography, copperplate etching, chronogenic printing, collage, archival inkjet, pulp painting and Mixographia works. Lavador is thrilled with the exhibit, which features a cross-section of work from the “Global Asias” exhibition.
“The educational opportunities that come with an exhibition like this are endless,” Lavadour said. “We’ll be talking to students of all ages about everything from geography to handmade paper. The Palmer Museum of Art’s staff is sharing the amazing interpretive and educational materials that they created for ‘Global Asias,’ and we plan to take full advantage of their generosity.”
The exhibit continues through Oct. 26 in the East Oregonian Gallery at the arts center, 214 N. Main St. Admission is always free. Also, free drop-in, hands-on activities inspired by the works in the exhibit will be available each Saturday for all ages.
The gallery is open Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays, noon to 4 p.m. In addition, access outside of regular business hours can be arranged.
