BAKER CITY — A new event is coming to the golf course and it’s all about music and makers.
And it’s focused on staying local.
“It’s a celebration of Eastern Oregon music and makers,” said Dylan Smith, marketing coordinator for the Anthony Lakes Outdoor Recreation Association.
The first Quail Fest is set for Saturday, Sept. 14, 2-9 p.m. at Quail Ridge Golf Course, 2801 Indiana Ave.
The day features music by Wise 1 (2 p.m.), Thunder Pumper (3 p.m.), Add Collard (4 p.m.), Elwood (5:30 p.m.) and Mylo Bybee (7:30 p.m.).
Admission to the festival is $20 in advance at quailridgebakercity.com/quailfest, or $25 at the gate. Admission is free for ages 12 and younger.
Tickets gain access to the music, and then attendees can browse the vendor tables. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from Creston’s at Quail Ridge.
Smith said the event will be on hole 18 of the golf course, and those attending are encouraged to bring chairs.
He’s anticipating that this Quail Fest is the first of many.
“I think it’ll just get bigger and bigger,” he said.
About the music
The evening’s headliner is Mylo Bybee, a band out of Boise with local ties. Three musicians formed the group in early 2020 and, in light of the pandemic that canceled live shows, Mylo Bybee recorded a five-song EP before anyone heard them play live.
Band members are Tyler Schlagenhauf on guitar, Wes Schlagenhauf on bass, and Jason Guadalupe on drums. They’ve played around Eastern Oregon, including Churchill School in Baker City, plus venues in La Grande, Enterprise and Joseph.
Earlier in the day, the festival opens with hip hop by Wise 1, followed by Thunder Pumper, a band based in Baker City that band member Damon Rose describes as an “instrumental rock cooperative with vocals.”
Next up is Add Collard, a Baker City native who can often be found playing music, acting in plays and brewing beer at Barley Brown’s Brewpub. He describes his style as “medium energy Americana.”
Elwood lives in Union County and says he has “always been inspired by the serenity and sheer power of Mother Nature — the trickle of a stream, the roar of a thundercloud, the pure silence of a meadow lit by the coming of the sun.” Elwood has shared the stage with bands such as Simon Tucker, Tim Snider, Michael Kirkpatrick, Kory Quinn, Left Coast Country, David Henry and many more.
