Head to Halfway for fair fun

HALFWAY — Labor Day weekend brings the tradition of the Baker County Fair and Panhandle Rodeo in Halfway, Aug. 31-Sept. 2.

Dating to 1921, the weekend includes traditional youth livestock events, as well as live music and three days of rodeo action.

And, new this year, is a carnival on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 10 p.m.

Admission is free to the fair.

Fair schedule

  • Youth events: Showmanship and conformation classes are held Saturday and Sunday starting at 8:15 a.m. The livestock sale is at 9 a.m. Monday.
  • Live music: Frank Carlson, 2-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Midway stage.
  • Youth dance: 9 p.m. to midnight Saturday and Sunday, Pine Valley Grange Hall.
  • After the rodeo: Adult dance, food and beverages Saturday and Sunday, plus music by Scott Wilson and band, 9 p.m.
  • Jackpot Team Roping: 10 a.m. Saturday at the rodeo arena.
  • Team Pack Horse Race: 5 p.m. Saturday at the rodeo arena.
  • Cowboy Church: 9 a.m. Sunday, Midway stage.
  • Pie and Buckle Auction: 4 p.m. Sunday, Midway stage.
  • Parade: 12:30 p.m. Monday on Main Street. Lineup at 11:30 a.m.

”Rock with the Stock”

The Idaho Cowboy Association events feature some of the top cowboys in the Pacific Northwest. Pre-rodeo events start at 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and the main event begins at 7 p.m. Sunday is Tough Enough to Wear Pink night.

On Monday, pre-rodeo begins at 1:30 p.m., followed by the ICA rodeo at 2:30 p.m.

Rodeo tickets are $15 for reserved seating, $12 general admission, $5 for ages 6-12 and free for 5 and younger. On Monday, admission is free for veterans.

Royalty

This year’s senior queen is McKenna Thomas, and the senior princess is Ellerie Waller. The junior queen is Kodi Miller, and the junior princess is Emma Gallimore.
