First Friday = new art

BAKER CITY — September ushers in new art shows at galleries and shops around town, which will stay open late for the First Friday art walk on Sept. 6.
Royal Artisan
1912 Main St.
Sherri Linnemeyer will continue her show of tissue art at Royal Artisan, adding 30 more works to the show that opened in August. The September opening starts at 5:30 p.m.
Churchill Hall Pass Gallery
3451 Broadway St.
Churchill will showcase the work of Emily and Amy VanGaasbeck, who will present a pop culture/comic con style show, starting at 5:30 p.m.
Emily will have 3D art and framed digital illustrations with her original characters. Amy will show her altered art, as well as paintings of pop culture icons.
Crossroads Carnegie Art Center
2020 Auburn Ave.
Crossroads will kick off the annual open regional show on Friday, Sept. 6, with a reception starting at 5 p.m.
Prizes will be awarded, including a $1,000 prize from the Barbara Wilbur Family Fund for this year’s theme “Abstraction.” Additional awards are Best of Show ($300), People’s Choice ($300), first place for 2D and 3D ($200 each), second place for 2D and 3D ($100 each), and five medium-specific awards for watercolor, photography, fiber art, pastel and ceramics. This exhibit is on display until Sept. 28.
This year’s judge is Nika Blasser, an interdisciplinary artist based in Pendleton. She has an MFA in Drawing and Intermedia from the University of Alberta and a BFA in Painting, Drawing and Printmaking from Portland State University.
Blasser will lead an informal artist talk on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 10 a.m. to noon. This is free and open to the public.
Baker Food Coop

The co-op will feature Salty Beach Botanicals, LLC Herbal Balms, Tinctures, Teas and Elixers for Health from 4-7 p.m. on Sept. 6.
