Robots, golf and more at the library

PENDLETON — The Pendleton Public Library has a slew of programs planned for both youngsters and adults this month.

Here’s a look at what’s coming up soon — activities are at the library, 502 SW Dorion Ave., unless otherwise noted.

Career Storytime: Air Traffic Control

Saturday, Sept. 7, 1-2 p.m.: Airport Director Dan Bandel will be onsite to teach about air traffic control with an interactive presentation, stories and activities.

Robot Round-Up

Saturday, Sept. 7, 3-4:30 p.m.: Children ages 8-11 will compete against each other in several events such as a “drone barrel race,” “rover relay race,” and “bot battling.” The winner of each event will receive a prize plus there will be a grand prize for the overall best performer. Registration required.

Mario Golf Tournament

Friday, Sept. 20, 6-7:30 p.m.: Teens will take turns playing the game Mario Golf on Nintendo Switch in a points-styled 6-hole tournament. No registration required; ages 12-17. Pendleton Recreation Building, 510 SW Dorion Ave.

Family Putt Putt Tournament

Saturday, Sept. 21, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.: Bring the whole family to celebrate National Mini Golf Day at the library. Make your way through this fun yet challenging six-hole course before submitting your scorecard for the day. Winners from different age brackets will receive a prize. Register a tee time in advance by calling 541-966-0380.

Teen Chef: Stir Fry

Tuesday, Sept. 24, 5-6:30 p.m.: Teens will try their hand at making stir fry before grading each other’s dishes. Top grade will earn the Teen Master Chef title for the month of September. Registration required; ages 11-17. This will be at the Pendleton Recreation Building’s foundation room and kitchen, 510 SW Dorion Ave.

Indigenous Author Book Club

Mission Market’s patio area

The monthly book talk for the Indigenous Author Book Club will take place at Mission Market during a Mobile Library visit. Book pick is “The Lost Journals of Sacajewea” by Debra Magpie Earling.
