ELGIN, SUMPTER — The hot days of summer caused cancellations for both the Eagle Cap Excursion Train and Sumpter Valley Railroad, but both organizations are making plans for special fall rides.

Sumpter Valley
The Sumpter Valley Railroad leaves McEwen Station, 23 miles from Baker City on Highway 7. The round-trip travels six miles to Sumpter, then reverses course to return to McEwen.
On some weekends, the train offers short runs from Sumpter to the river and back.
The plan is to use the steam engine, although that may change depending on the fire danger, in which case the diesel engine will lead the train.
Reservations can be made at sumptervalleyrailroad.org.
