BAKER CITY — Celebrate Oktoberfest in an alpine setting this year while supporting outdoor recreation and youth arts in Baker County with an all-day event at Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort on Saturday, Sept. 28.

“Crossroads has long valued our partnership with Anthony Lakes, and we are excited to create this partnership,” said Ginger Savage, Crossroads executive director. “Our dedicated volunteer committee wants to grow Oktoberfest in Baker County into a community-wide celebration fundraiser for our community’s youth.”

The first event of the day is a 5K run and walk that explores the trails. Registration begins at 9 a.m., and the 5K starts at 10 a.m.

Register in advance at anthonylakes. com, or sign up before the race. Cost is $20 or $15 for 12 and younger.

The grill fires up at 11 a.m. for attendees to purchase brats and beverages courtesy of John and Molly Wilson, Safeway, Side A Brewing and Barley Brown’s Brewpub.

Live music will fill the air from 12:30-3:30 p.m. courtesy of Brushfire.

From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., attendees can enjoy the free events of kids crafts, a youth bike rodeo course organized by The Trailhead, crosscut saw and yodeling competitions, a hot dog eating contest and more.

Most events will be outside, weather permitting.

Also, be sure to purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win items, and pick up information about youth programs both at Anthony Lakes and Crossroads.

“Anthony Lakes is really excited for this unique opportunity to bridge arts and outdoor recreation with a fun, family-friendly event,” said Chelsea Judy, marketing director for the Anthony Lakes Outdoor Recreation Association. “We anticipate a day of eating brats, dancing to Bavarian tunes, and raising funds for our growing youth programs. With Crossroads as a cornerstone of arts in our region, we are grateful to further this partnership with such a wonderful organization.”

Oktoberfest will kick off a fundraising campaign for a new rental shop, which will help Anthony Lakes accommodate growing programs.

Ski for the Health of It, which provides rentals, lessons and lift tickets for grades 4-12, brought 850 students to the mountain for 3,600 lessons last season, said Dylan Smith, marketing and operations coordinator.
