BAKER CITY — It’s a wonder Sean Nolan didn’t yawn.
Fresh from a two-week tour across Germany, Nolan and his bandmate Shawn Tucker were about to hit the road again from Toronto, Canada, to share the music of TRAITRS with North America.
“It’s been a busy year for us,” Nolan said on Sept. 18. “We’ve been all over.”
And how they’re coming to Baker City for a show on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at Churchill School, 3451 Broadway St.
Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $18 in advance at churchillbaker.com or $25 at the door.
Nolan said he and Tucker have similar interests, and formed the band in late 2015. They released a record in 2016, but he said it was tough to book shows because they were new to the music scene.
“Nobody knew who we were,” he said.
Gigs picked up by 2017, and continued to grow through 2019. They were offered a record deal in late 2019, but the coronavirus pandemic made it a bit tough to finish the album.
They started in March 2020 and finished on New Year’s Eve. The album was released in 2021, but venues weren’t fully open for performances.
“It’s hard to release music if you aren’t touring,” Nolan said.
That changed the next year.
“It wasn’t until 2022, in the spring, that we could tour our record properly,” he said.
Nolan plays keyboards, while Tucker sings vocals and plays the guitar.
As for the music of TRAITRS, Nolan hesitates to give the sound a specific label.
He rattles off “punkier side of post-punk,” and “dark goth, electronic.”
As for their concerts, he offers feedback from audiences:
“The live experience is quite a bit different from the albums,” he said.
And one final tidbit? A TRAITRS song was featured in the remake of “The Crow.”
“it was pretty cool for us to be included in that film,” Nolan said.
The opener
Wise 1 opens the show at 6:45 p.m. Based in Baker City, Wise 1 first played at Churchill to open a concert for Shamarr Allen.
“That was an amazing experience,” he said.
Most recently, he played a set for the inaugural QuailFest at Quail Ridge Golf Course on Sept. 14. As for what people can expect from his music?
“Emotion, raw emotion,” he said.
