- Award-winning author Jenny Hubbard will give a special presentation on Oct. 10, 2024, in the Secret Garden, a new programming space at the Pendleton Public Library.
PENDLETON — The Pendleton Public Library welcomes an author, plans some Halloween events and much more during October.
Here’s a look at what you can do at the library, 502 SW Dorion Ave. If registration is required, stop by the library or call 541-966-0380.
Author visit
Award-winning young adult author Jenny Hubbard will discuss her two books, “Paper Covers Rock” and “And We Stay” on Thursday, Oct. 10, 5 p.m.
She will take questions from the audience, sign books and share a little bit about the writing journey behind her stories.
Indigenous Author Book Club
The author for October is Stephen Graham Jones and the group will read his novel “The Only Good Indians,” which has won almost a dozen horror-themed literature awards.
This book club meets Thursday, Oct. 17, 6-7 p.m.
Halloween Escape Room
Teens will have 45 minutes to solve a Halloween-themed breakout box on Friday, Oct. 18. There will be two sessions — 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. — for this teen activity at the Rec Center, 510 SW Dorion Ave.
The Official Minecraft Book Club
Students in grades five and six are encouraged to choose their own Minecraft novel from the provided list and then harvest the story for this bi-monthly book talk and games on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 1 p.m. Registration is required.
Halloween Story Time with Altrusa
A spookily special storytime sponsored by Altrusa is set for Saturday, Oct. 26, 11 a.m. in the children’s area.
DIY Ofrenda
When celebrating the Day of the Dead, families gather to build altars (or ofrendas) to honor their loved ones who have passed by using photos, personal items, food and drinks. This craft will detail how to make an easy shoebox ofrenda to honor loved ones on Día de Los Muertos, Nov. 2. This activity, set for Oct. 29 at 5:30 p.m., is for all ages and registration is required.
Crime Scene in Halloween Town
Teens will work in teams to solve a crime scene set in Jack Skeleton’s Halloween Town. Using detective skills like observation, evidence collecting, and character motives, teens will piece everything together while working against the clock. This activity, for ages 12-17, is Oct. 30, 5:30-6:30 p.m. Registration is required.
