Hermiston High drama presents ‘Radium Girls’
HERMISTON — The Hermiston High School production of “Radium Girls” continues with four more performances in the school’s auditorium, 600 S. First St.
Curtain times are Wednesday, Oct. 30, 6 p.m.; Friday, Nov. 1, 7 p.m.; and Saturday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door. The cost is $10 for ages 11 and older and $8 for senior citizens and students with ASB cards.
The play is based on a true story about female factory laborers who fell ill in the mid-1920s after using radium-based paint while working at the United States Radium Corporation. Dozens died and many more had lingering health issues.

Star Party planned Nov. 1 in Halfway
HALFWAY — Dark Sky Halfway presents a New Moon Halloween Star Party 2 on Friday, Nov. 1, 5-11 p.m. at the Pine Valley Fairgrounds.
Bundle up — costumes are encouraged to extend the Halloween fun — and enjoy music, drinks, food, T-shirt making, face painting and gazing at the stars.

Hear old-time music Nov. 2 in Joseph
JOSEPH — The next Blue Mountain Old Time Fiddlers show is Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Hurricane Creek Grange Hall, 82930 Airport Lane.
A pork dinner with trimmings is available at 5 p.m. for $15. The music starts at 6 p.m. Admission is $5, $4 for members or free for ages 12 and younger.

Echo Corn Maze brews up beer, wine event
ECHO — The Echo Corn Maze & Pumpkin Patch is uncorking a barrel of fun during its 2024 season finale event.
Find the Wine & Beer is Saturday, Nov. 2, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 300 N. Dupont St. Admission is $12, which includes general admission to the 8-acre corn maze, mini maze, straw bale maze, tunnel maze, hay bale pyramid, corn crib and the photo station.
Find the local vendors — Sno Road Winery, Echo Ridge Cellars and Cerebella Winery — hidden throughout the corn maze.
Beer and wine is $5 (bring cash). In addition, food will be available for purchase from Mary’s Tacos.

Bazaar planned Nov. 2 in La Grande
LA GRANDE — The First Presbyterian Church of La Grande will have a holiday bazaar in the Presbyterian Friendship Center, on the corner of Sixth Street and Spring Avenue, on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Offerings include hand crafts, baked goods, books, fresh produce, jams and jellies and homemade doughnuts.

HERMISTON — Registration recently opened for the annual Christmas Bazaar hosted by Hermiston Parks & Recreation.
The event is Nov. 30, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and includes three venues: the Hermiston Community Center, 415 S. Highway 395; Harkenider Senior Activity Center, 255 NE Second St.; and Maxwell Siding Pavilion, 145 N. First Place.

Hermiston Christian seeks local artisans
HERMISTON — The Hermiston Christian School is seeking local artisans to showcase their unique talents. Vendor applications are being accepted for the school’s third annual Christmas Market.
The market is open Dec. 7, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1825 W. Highland Ave. Admission is free. Vendors can set up on Dec. 6 from 6-8 p.m.
Vendor space ranges from $30 to $60. Space fees provide money to help expand educational opportunities to more than 100 students who attend the school.

Free concert features ‘Songs for Peace’
WALLA WALLA — Contemplative sacred and secular music is featured during the First Thursday Concert Series in Walla Walla.
Soprano Sarrah Lynne Havens and pianist Terri Koch will present “Medieval to Modern: Songs for Peace. The free concert is Thursday, Nov. 7, 12:15-12:45 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 323 Catherine St.

LOSTINE — A fundraiser is planned Saturday, Nov. 2, to support the Wallowa Avalanche Center, which forecasts avalanche conditions throughout Northeastern Oregon.
The event starts at 5 p.m. at M. Crow. Pizza and beer will be available, as well as a 50/50 raffle and a raffle to win a spot in one of the avalanche courses in Joseph ($500 value).

Writing workshops offered through Fishtrap
ENTERPRISE — Fishtrap offers a variety of online and in-person workshop opportunities throughout the year, from weekend classes to month-long courses in poetry, fiction, essays, nonfiction and much more. Writers of all ages and experiences are welcome.

The next class, “Writing in Multiple Points of View,” begins Tuesday, Nov. 5. Francesca Jimenez will lead this online writing workshop on Tuesdays from 6-7:30 p.m. Registration is $120 or $110 for Fishtrappers.
The class will look at excerpts from the novel “When I Sing, Mountains Dance” by Irene Solà and other examples of multi-POV narratives to show how they create an interconnected narrative.
Through generative exercises and sharing work with each other, participants will explore how multiple POVs can describe intergenerational and familial expectations, characters’ relationships with one another, and the nature and environment of their world.
Learn how to make a comic
LA GRANDE — Art Center East is offering a three-session class about creating a comic for ages 8 to 12. Classes will be held Nov. 7, 14 and 21 from 4-5 p.m. at ACE, 1006 Penn Ave.
Sarah Marcotte leads this class. Participants will learn how to script a story using panels, dialogue and sound effects. The comic will come to life on the final session with different inking techniques.

Art sought for ‘Little Works’ exhibit
JOSEPH — The deadline is fast approaching to submit art for the “Little Works” exhibit at the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture.
The work cannot be larger than 10 inches square and must be submitted by Monday, Nov. 4. For information, visit josephy.org/event/litte-works-2024.
The show runs from Nov. 22 to Dec. 19, with an opening reception on Nov. 29 from noon to 4 p.m.

Hermiston library plans November events
HERMISTON — The Hermiston Public Library has several events coming up for both youngsters and adults.
Adults can pick up a pumpkin spice candle take-and-make kit on Monday, Nov. 4, starting at 11 am. at the library, 215 E. Gladys Ave.
The kids’ version of take-and-make has two dates: Nov. 8 provides everything needed to create a fall masterpiece, and Nov. 22 will focus on learning the gift of gratitude. Both kits are available starting at 11 a.m. until supplies last.
Bookminders, the Hermiston Public Library’s book club, meets Tuesday, Nov. 12, 1:30 p.m. at Hermiston City Hall, 180 NE Second St. This month’s selection is “An Honest Man” by Michael Koryta. A limited number of copies is available to check out at the library.
Teens can test their problem-solving skills at the Enchanted Quest Escape Room on Nov. 12, 6-7 p.m. at city hall. This activity, for grades six to 12, will require participants to solve puzzles, unravel mysteries and work together to rescue the last unicorn.
Fall bazaar is Nov. 2 at First Christian Church
LA GRANDE — First Christian Church, 901 Penn Ave., will have a fall bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Offerings include handmade crafts and baked goods, as well as the Country Store with homemade noodles, canned goods, jams and jellies. Also, Granny’s Attic will feature collectibles and fine used items.
Contra dance planned in Walla Walla
WALLA WALLA — The Walla Walla Friends of Acoustic Music and Whitman Social Dance Club will have a contra dance on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 7-9 p.m. at Whitman College’s Reid Center ballroom, 280 Boyer Ave.
Music will be provided by Big Joe. Professor Arielle Cooley and other local callers will provide instruction. No experience is needed.
