Entries sought for La Grande’s holiday parade
LA GRANDE — Do you love a parade? Well, La Grande Main Street Downtown has the parade for you!
The Thatcher’s Ace Hardware Holiday Parade of Lights is Friday, Nov. 29 with lineup at 5:30 p.m. and the parade at 6 p.m. on Adams Avenue.
Participants can walk, march, dance or ride along the avenue festooned in lights. This year’s theme is Hometown Holidays.
Five prizes will be awarded for creativity and inventiveness in various categories (best theme, best business entry, best organization/group, best walking/marching group and best motorized float).
Santa and Mrs. Claus will be riding on the Thatcher’s Ace Hardware float at the rear of the parade, which ends at Max Square with the tree lighting.
Hot cocoa and coffee will be provided by The Press Room.

Guardian Angel Homes fires up the griddle
HERMISTON — The final senior citizens pancake breakfast of the 2024 season is Friday, Nov. 15, 7-9 a.m. at Guardian Angel Homes, 540 NW 12th St. The meal is free for seniors 55 and older. Donations are welcome but not required.

Fall Festival happening in Prairie City
PRAIRIE CITY — A fall festival is planned for Friday, Nov. 15, at Prairie City school’s new gym from 5-7:30 p.m.

Cove theater presents ‘Charley’s Aunt’
COVE — The Cove High School theater department will present “Charley’s Aunt,” a classic comedy by Brandon Thomas, Nov. 15 and Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. Performances are on the Cove Theater stage in the small gym across from the high school, 803 Main St.
Written in 1892, this beloved comedy involves romantic pairings, impersonations, and social etiquette. The cast features nine CHS students and an alumnus. Head to the contra dance on Nov. 16
MILTON-FREEWATER — Walla Walla Friends of Acoustic Music will host a contra dance at the Timberrib, 84847 Winesap Road, on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.

Square Dance Club offers free lessons
MILTON-FREEWATER — The Muddy Frogs Square Dance Club invites the public to free lessons for an introduction to modern Western square dance.
The group meets Sundays from 2-4 p.m. in the Milton-Freewater Community Building, 109 NE Fifth Ave.
“This is a great activity,” said Kim Munk. “You can walk seven miles at one night of dancing.”

Teens: Enter a pie contest at the Pendleton library
PENDLETON — The Pendleton Public Library is planning two teen events soon.
A Turkey Day Breakout is happening Friday, Nov. 15, 6 p.m. at the library, 502 SW Dorion Ave. Teens will have 45 minutes to complete this Thanksgiving-themed breakout box. This is for ages 12-17.
The Pendleton Public Library’s next Teen Chef event is a pie contest on Tuesday, Nov. 19, from 5-7 p.m. in Pendleton Recreation’s Foundation Room and kitchen, next door to the library.
In this version, teens ages 11-17 will bake their choice of pumpkin and/or apple pies at home, then present them at the contest. Recipes and a list of all ingredients must be available. Judges will score pies in two divisions (apple and pumpkin) based on appearance, recipe and taste.
Wallowa County kids present ‘Sleeping Beauty’
ENTERPRISE — Fishtrap and Missoula Children’s Theatre will present the youth production “Sleeping Beauty” on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. at Enterprise School, 201 SE Fourth St.
Admission is $10 adults, $8 seniors and Fishtrappers, $5 for ages 12-18 and free for kids. Tickets are available at fishtrap.org and at the door.
Wallowa County youngsters auditioned on Nov. 11 and rehearsed all week to prepare the show. MCT has toured internationally for more than 40 years, and arrives with all costumes, scenery and props necessary to produce a musical.
Tickets on sale for Painted Sky gala
JOHN DAY — Painted Sky Center for the Arts is rolling out the red carpet for its 2024 fundraising gala Nov. 23 and tickets are now on sale.
Attendees can participate in festive games and bid in auctions of fine art, decorative Christmas trees and desserts. The gala will be Painted Sky’s largest fundraising event of the year.
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at paintedskycenter.com or at the office of Karin Barntish, 131 W. Main St. in John Day. Those who would like to sponsor the event can visit paintedskycenter.com/special-events.
The fundraising gala will be at Painted Sky Center for the Arts, 116 NW Bridge St. in John Day. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
Painted Sky’s goal is to raise $17,000 to help sustain the art center’s operations, after-school programming, youth/adult classes and workshops, and free events.

Celebrate nature at Wild and Scenic Film Festival
LA GRANDE — The Grande Ronde Model Watershed is hosting the Wild and Scenic Film Festival, on Nov. 15, 6 p.m. at HQ, 112 Depot St.
Advance tickets for the fundraiser are available at grmw.org for $25 per person.
The Wild and Scenic Film Festival will show 12 films for a total of 125 minutes of viewing, celebrating the natural world and inspiring the audience to act for the benefit of the GRMW. The 12 films will be shown back-to-back with a brief intermission.
The festival is a fundraiser to help GRMW continue to publish its newsletter. The newsletter, which is known as “Ripples” today, originated in 1992 with the founding of the Grande Ronde Model Watershed.

The venue held a soft opening on Oct. 10 and is currently open Thursday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

EOU stages Irish dramas this month
LA GRANDE — Eastern Oregon University’s theater program is presenting several Irish plays in November featuring stories of survival, national identity and human nature.
The shows will be staged in Schwarz Theater in Loso Hall on the EOU campus.
The featured shows are “Belfast Girls,” “The Rising of the Moon,” “Pot of Broth” and “In the Shadow of the Glen.”
The latter three will be presented together Nov. 14 and Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.
Audiences can see “Belfast Girls” at 7 p.m. Nov. 13 and Nov. 15, and 2 p.m. Nov. 17.
Tickets are $15 and available at eou.edu/theatre.
Register soon for Turkey Day 5K
HERMISTON — The Turkey Day 5K is Nov. 28, but register by Nov. 17 to get a T-shirt.

Advance registration is $20 for ages 12 and older, or $15 for ages 6-11. After Nov. 17, the price increases by $5.

‘UnWINEd’ at the monthly wine walk
BAKER CITY — Baker City Downtown’s monthly wine walk is Thursday, Nov. 21, 5-7 p.m. This edition is the Toddy Trot. Start at Hatch, 2019 Main St., to get a wine glass and map for $12. A portion of this month’s proceeds will support Baker City Downtown’s projects and programs.

La Grande Turkey Trot is Nov. 23
LA GRANDE — The Mountain Valley Turkey Trot takes off Saturday, Nov. 23, 9 a.m. from Mountain Valley Therapy, 2519 Cove Ave.
This fun run/walk follows a route through Island City, and is for all ages. Proceeds benefit a nonprofit each year, and this year’s beneficiary is SoleKIDS La Grande, which is an eight-week afterschool running program for elementary students that prepares participants for a 5K race.

Tylor & the Train Robbers cruise into Wildhorse
MISSION — Tylor & the Train Robbers continue to blaze trails while carving a path with their unique blend of roots country and Americana music.
While the band is based in Boise, they have roots in Helix and with the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Reservation. Catch them at “home” as they take the stage Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15-16, from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Wildhorse Sports Bar at Wildhorse Resort & Casino, off Interstate 84, exit 216. There is no cover charge.
Their latest release, “Hum of the Road,” offers a musical journey with creative story-telling, gritty vocals and colorful instrumentation. The eclectic collection includes rock and roll anthems, country swing, psychedelic explorations, heartfelt folk ballads and classic country songs.

Craft classes planned at Rockwall Grange
ELGIN — Craft classes are planned Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Rockwall Grange, 71562 Middle Road. Two separate craft classes will be taught by instructor Jamie Baker.
An activity of painting wooden spoons and making sweater pumpkins is from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Then, Christmas card creations goes from 2-4 p.m.

EOTEC offers indoor fun for the whole family
HERMISTON — With the temperatures dipping down, it’s time to find indoor fun — and Hermiston Parks & Recreation has you covered with Rec It Arena. The activity returns Nov. 15-17 at the Eastern Oregon Trade and Event Center, 1705 E. Airport Road.
It features everything from inflatable fun and a toddler zone to ping pong, volleyball and basketball. The weekend kicks off with Family Night on Friday, Nov. 15, 4-7 p.m. The cost is $5 per person at the door (one free child with a paying parent). And teens have the place to themselves from 7:30-10:30 p.m.
Open play for everyone runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 16-17. The cost is $5 per person. Also, semi-private party rooms for up to 50 guests are available for rent.

Deadline approaching for The Big submissions
LA GRANDE — Art Center East is seeking submissions for The Big, the annual open exhibit. The submission deadline is Nov. 23, and the show opens Dec. 6.
Artists must complete an online submission form that be found at artcentereast.org. The show is open to artists age 18 and older.
Art sought for January show in Joseph
JOSEPH — The Josephy Center for Arts and Culture is seeking entries for the Wallowa Works Exhibit, which runs from Jan. 11 to Feb. 18, 2025.
Artwork will be accepted until midnight on Dec. 1. Entries must “portray what Wallowa County means to you.” All mediums are welcome.
The show is curated and judged by Kirk Skovlin. Awards will be given for first, second and third place, as well as People’s Choice and Best Young Artist.
