ENTERPRISE — A new Christmas tradition seems to be developing in Wallowa County.

Last year it was “Elves on Strike” and now, for 2024 — they are back!

“Elves on Strike: The Sequel” is coming to the stage of the OK Theater, 208 W. Main St., on Friday, Dec. 13, 7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 14 at 1 p.m.

Admission is by donation.

Elves on Strike … again!

Last Christmas season, Amy Fairchild, a composer, musician and educator, and her cast of talented actors won the hearts of audience members with the county’s debut of “Elves on Strike,” an original, delightful and professional children’s musical telling a story of what happens when underappreciated elves learn to stand up for themselves and confront Santa.

This Christmas season, Fairchild and her cast have done it again.

“Elves on Strike: The Sequel” continues the tradition.

Fairchild, in association with the Wallowa Valley Music Alliance, continues to share her never-ending talent to create engaging, entertaining and meaningful children’s musicals. Her productions entertain as she helps discover and develop the depth of theatrical talents of the county’s children. No one is more delighted than Fairchild.

The “Sequel” cast of 50 includes some new actors who are joining the “experienced” cast — no one wants to miss out on the fun.

“Their skills have grown so much in breadth and depth,” Fairchild said.

“Elves on Strike: The Sequel” promises to be another hit. Rehearsals are wrapping up and they will soon be ready to win the hearts of the county yet again.

The plot encourages people to rethink stereotypes and to stop before labeling someone just because of how they appear.

“It is about inclusion, never assume something about another person,” Fairchild said.

You never know when some little folks are going to surprise you with a big story that teaches us all an important Christmas lesson.

About the writer/composer

Fairchild and her family moved to Wallowa County in 2022. Before that, she taught at a school in northwest Portland for 15 years, where she helped with musical productions. In 2015, she wrote her own.

“I really loved the experience of writing the music and working with the kids,” she said. “I love to write music, I love to compose. It’s my passion.”

She wrote several more and saw a new opportunity after moving to northeastern Oregon.

“There aren’t many kids musical theater opportunities here,” she said. “To have a place where they belong and people can see what they can do.”
