ENTERPRISE — Winterfest is celebrating its 26th year as an annual holiday event in Enterprise on Saturday, Dec. 14.
Santa Central is from 1-4 p.m. at Warde Park. There will also be warming barrels on Main Street to keep participants toasty, roasted chestnuts, a barrel train for children to ride while they wait their turn to see Santa and an artisan market at Fishtrap.
The city will provide a food truck with free hot cocoa, and some businesses are staying open later.
The culmination of Winterfest is the lighted holiday parade. Staging begins at 4:45 p.m. in the parking lot outside Cloverleaf Hall. The parade begins there and goes down Main Street.
The parade is estimated to arrive at the east end of West Main Street at approximately 5:15 p.m. The parade features lighted floats with Santa leading the way in a city of Enterprise fire truck. Lacey McQuead, Enterprise city administrator, said following the parade, a small sled filled with gifts will be presented to two boys and two girls chosen from a drawing. She said the city buys all the gifts.
First, second and third place awards will be given for the top three floats.
In addition, to promote downtown businesses open during the celebration, the city is giving away $500 in Buckskin Bucks. By visiting one of the participating businesses — Wild Carrot, Sasquatch, Bee Charmed, Latigo, the OK Theatre, Red Rose Boutique, River Street Market, Commons Coffeehouse, Sugar Time Bakery, Brewed Beauty Bar, The Bookloft, Humane Society, Paper Street Enterprise, Favorite Finds Antiques and the Holiday Pop Up Shop located at the corner of Main and First during the celebration — customers can enter a drawing for the Buckskin Bucks.
The drawing will take place following the parade.
McQuead said the Winter Artisan Market, located at Fishtrap, is in its second year. The market will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Featured items include handmade soaps and jewelry, pottery, fine art, cards, woodworking and glass art. McQuead said the city “is very excited to have the artisan market join in.”
Although no one knows the exact history of the Winterfest celebration, the late Enterprise City Administrator, Michelle Young, was a dedicated proponent of Winterfest.
McQuead said Winterfest is the last sponsored event for the city for the year. She said the city takes a lot of pride in hosting the event with many memories made.
“It is the one event that brings the community together downtown,” McQuead said.
