Make plans now for Summer Fishtrap

ENTERPRISE — Fishtrap is accepting applications for 2025 Summer Fishtrap scholarships and fellowships now through Jan. 1.

Summer Fishtrap offers weeklong creative writing workshops in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, revision and graphic storytelling, plus a cross-genre virtual workshop.

Each workshop is limited to 13 participants, and throughout the week, organizers will bring the best of Summer Fishtrap through craft talks, discussions, open mics and readings. The keynote will feature author Beth Piatote.

The 38th annual Summer Fishtrap will be July 7-13 at Wallowa Lake Lodge. Registration is $975 or $875 for Fishtrappers, and opens Feb. 25.

Scholarships

Thanks to support from foundations, individuals and local businesses, Fishtrap can offer a limited number of need-based scholarships that cover the cost of Summer Fishtrap registration. There is no application fee.

Fellowships

Summer Fishtrap Fellowships are designed to provide new and emerging writers with an opportunity to connect with and be inspired by a community of writers as they pursue their professional writing aspirations.

Many past Fellows have become award-winning authors and respected educators. A Fellowship covers Summer Fishtrap registration plus meals and lodging for the week. There is a $25 application fee.

Writing Workshops

Summer Fishtrap may be months away, but Fishtrap offers writing workshops throughout the year. Register at fishtrap.org or email mike@fishtrap.org. Here’s a look at upcoming offerings:

”Mothering as Transformation: A Poetic Journey” meets Jan. 4 and Jan. 11, 9-10:30 a.m. This online creative writing workshop will be led by Jessica Gigot. Participants will “explore motherhood/mothering as transformation, read from a diverse selection of mother-poets, and discuss how and why motherhood matters are relevant to all readers.” Registration is $60 or $55 for Fishtrappers.

A one-hour online workshop with J.B. Kish titled ”Project Managing Your Novel: How to Write a Book in Ten Months or Less” is set for Feb. 26, 6-7 p.m. Registration is $20 or $18 for Fishtrappers.

Susan Pesti-Strobel will lead an in-person memoir workshop titled ”Family of Strangers: A Confluence of Life Stories” on March 1, 8 and 15 from 10-11:30 a.m. Registration is $100 or $90 for Fishtrappers.

Amy Minato will lead two workshops this spring. ”Writes of Spring: Part 1, Ides of March” will be online March 4, 11 and 18 from 6-8 p.m. Registration is $120 or $110 for Fishtrappers. ”Writes of Spring: Part 2, April Fools” will be April 1, 8 and 15 from 6-8 p.m. This is an online memoir workshop. Registration is $120 or $110 for Fishtrappers.

Marketplace
