PENDLETON — The Pendleton Public Library is planning a variety of events and programs for both children and adults in December and January. All sessions are at the library, 502 SW Dorion Ave., unless otherwise noted.
Indigenous Author Book Club
This book club will meet on Thursday, Dec. 19, 6 p.m. at the library. The December selection is “Firekeeper’s Daughter” by Angeline Boulley.
Rare Game Competition (Teen Night Activity)
On Friday, Dec. 20, teens ages 12-17 will compete against each other in a double-elimination tournament featuring both “God of Rock” on PS5 and “Bomberman” on Nintendo Switch. Most overall points from wins will earn a cool prize. The play runs from 6-8 p.m.
Hogsmeade Vendor Fair
In the “Harry Potter” books, Hogsmeade is a village close to Hogwarts where students like to hang out and shop. On Saturday, Dec. 21, from 1-4 p.m. the library is creating a Hogsmeade vendor fair in the secret garden to celebrate the season. The library will provide free beverages, and there will be raffles and door prizes.
Also, adults who are registered with the library’s Hogwarts 2024-25 program may find a special prize and can earn House Cup points by attending. Didn’t sign up yet? Contact the library for a late registration form.
Minecraft Book Club
This group meets Saturday, Dec. 28 at 1 p.m. Students in grades five and six can choose between two different Minecraft novels — “The Mountain” or “The Voyage.” The group will briefly discuss the book before doing a story-building activity with Minecraft tiles.
Crime Scene at Hogwarts
A terrible crime has been committed at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry, and they need teams of teenage detectives to solve it on Saturday, Dec. 28 at 3 p.m. In this fast-paced CSI game, teens will work together to connect the evidence, alibis, and facts to tell the crime’s true story.
Drone & Bot Racing (Teen Night Activity)
Descriptions: Teens will try their hand at racing both drones and bots with the champion of each earning a small prize on Friday, Jan. 3, 6-8 p.m. at the Pendleton Recreation Center, 510 SW Dorion Ave.
