Arts center launches classes in January

PENDLETON — Pendleton Center for the Arts is offering lots of ways to start the new year in a creative way.
Here’s a look at classes that start in January. For more details, or to register, visit pendletonarts.org. Classes are held at the center, 214 N. Main St.
Papermaking (ages 7-12)
Participants will make paper — please wear clothing that can be messy. This two-session class is Jan. 7 and Jan. 14 from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. Cost is $20.
Teen Clay
Brian Purnell teaches this ongoing class, and students can join at any time. It meets Tuesdays, 4-5:30 p.m., from Jan. 7 through Feb. 25. Cost is free.
Pottery: Wheel Throwing
Marie Pratuch leads this workshop on Wednesdays, 6-8 p.m., from Jan. 8 through Feb. 19. She will share the processes, materials and tools, and students will have plenty of time on the wheel to make functional objects. All levels are welcome. Cost is $190 members, $195 members, and $50 materials fee.
Basics of Bookbinding
Learn how to bind a book by hand with Erica Edwards in a four-session class that meets Wednesdays, 4-5:30 p.m., from Jan. 8-29. Cost is free.
Ceramic Open Studio
Previous ceramics students who know the PCA Ceramic Studio Policy can have open-ended, self-lead time in the studio on Thursdays from 6:30-8 p.m. starting Jan. 9. Cost is $60 members, $65 nonmembers, plus $50 clay fee.
Beginning Guitar
Learn basic guitar skills and build a foundation for playing a variety of music with Charlie Herrington on Wednesdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. beginning Jan. 8. No guitar experience is necessary. Cost is $50 members, $55 nonmembers.
Continued Guitar
This class is for students who are already familiar with the guitar. It begins Jan. 8 and meets Wednesdays from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Cost is $50 members, $55 nonmembers.
Glass on Glass Mosaics
Linner Mishler teaches this five-session class on Thursdays, 6-8 p.m., beginning Jan. 8. The workshop is designed for beginners, but all levels are welcome. Cost is $90 members, $95 nonmembers, plus $20 material fee.
Fly Tying
In this class for beginners, John Dadoly will provide fly tying tips and techniques. It begins Jan. 9 and meets Thursdays from 6:30-8 p.m. Cost is $45 plus $15 materials fee.
Photography
Yasser Marte leads this in-depth photography class that starts Jan. 10 and meets Fridays from noon to 1:30 p.m. for six weeks. Participants will not use cell phones — bring a camera or borrow one from PCA. This class is open to teens and adults. Cost is $100 members, $105 nonmembers (free for teens).
Drawing From Sight
Peter Bryan leads this still life drawing class that uses a variety of mediums to capture images through the eyes of an abstract artist. There will be two dates offered for the same class: Jan. 11 and Feb. 15, both at 11 a.m. Cost is $35 members, $40 nonmembers.
Drawing Collaborative
Alice Thomas and Shari Dallas facilitate this free gathering on Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m. to noon, starting Jan. 15. Participants will practice drawing to see and composition building.
Winter Workshop (ages 7-12)
Kate Peck leads this workshop with seasonal art projects on Jan. 18 from 2-3:30 p.m. Cost is $10.
