What We’re Into

My favorite show of all time is “The Sopranos.” Hands down. I’ve watched the series about a dozen times, probably more. The dark humor, violent criminal lifestyle, constant family conflict, psychological turmoil, ethical dilemmas, vivid dream sequences and ambiguous ending makes it the creme de la creme of television writing.
Among the great television dramatic series of all time, which include “Mad Men,” “Breaking Bad,” “Atlanta,” “The Wire,” “Game of Thrones,” “Peaky Blinders” and more, “The Sopranos” sits on top of the throne.
My girlfriend, Jill Clark, never saw the HBO series but said she wanted to watch it with me and see why I’m making such a fuss. So, I suggested that we watch the series every Sunday, cook an Italian dish, drink some wine and call it Sopranos Sundays.
Before watching an episode, the first thing we do is bust out the Chianti, roll up our sleeves and cook a different meal each Sunday. We make baked ziti with ground beef and pork sausage, chicken parmesan with fresh marinara sauce, prosciutto sandwiches with fresh mozzarella, bolognese and more, which all include fresh ingredients such as basil, tomatoes, garlic and mozzarella.
After we crank out a couple of episodes, we walk off our stuffed stomachs and stroll around the neighborhood to discuss Tony Soprano, his wife, Carmella, Uncle Junior, Christopher Moltisanti and the infamous Olivia Soprano.
Lately, it’s been too cold to walk outside so we trade the strolling for more wine. It’s been great. We miss it when Sunday ends but we work on a new menu when Monday begins.
On Sundays, some folks go to church, some watch the football game and some probably catch up on their chores. Us, we drink wine, eat and watch “The Sopranos.” Salute.
