BAKER CITY — If your New Year’s resolution was to learn something new, check out the schedule of upcoming classes at Crossroads Carnegie Art Center in Baker City.
Here’s an overview of workshops on the horizon — find more details and register at crossroads-arts.org or stop by the center at 2020 Auburn Ave. If something catches your eye, be sure to sign up in advance — classes could be canceled if there isn’t a minimum number of students. Also, every class has a “pay what you can” option on the website.
Ballet
Several levels of ballet classes start in early January.
- Ballet/Dance I is for young beginners and includes floor exercises, stretches and basic barre work. It meets Mondays from Jan. 6 through Feb. 24 at 3:45 p.m. Cost is $168 members or $208 nonmembers.
- Ballet/Dance II is for beginners with previous training. It meets Wednesdays from Jan. 8 to Feb. 26 at 3:45 p.m. Cost is $168 members or $208 nonmembers.
- Ballet/Dance II is for students who know the fundamentals and want to refine their skills. This class meets Thursdays from Jan. 9 to Feb. 27 at 3:45 p.m. Cost is $168 members or $208 nonmembers.
Tie Dye a New Year
Join Ginger Rembold to create colorful clothes in this workshop on Thursday, Jan. 9, 6-7:30 p.m. Participants bring prewashed 100% cotton items (up to 10) and other materials are provided. Cost is $32 members, $39 nonmembers.
Beginning Drawing
This is for those who have always wanted to try drawing. Dawn-Marie deLara teaches this on Wednesdays from Jan. 15 to March 10, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Cost is $210 members, $260 nonmembers.
Glass Etching
Learn to cut stencils and create individualized glassware in this one-day class on Thursday, Jan. 23, 6-7:30 p.m. Bring three to four pieces of glassware and stencil ideas. Cost is $32 members, $39 nonmembers.
Sewing
Danae Simonski will teach Beyond the Basics of Sewing on two Mondays — Jan. 6 and Jan. 13 — from 6-8 p.m. or two Saturdays, Jan. 11 and Jan. 18 from 10 a.m. to noon. Students will explore different fabrics and essential tools. Cost is $84 members, $104 nonmembers.
Pottery
Several options are offered for those interested in pottery.
- Advanced Pottery is for students who have already taken Intro to Pottery. It meets Jan. 8, Jan. 15 and Jan. 29, from 6-8 p.m. Cost is $126 members, $156 nonmembers, plus a $15 lab fee.
- January Sip-n-Spin is set for Jan. 9 and Jan. 30 from 6-8 p.m. (separate sessions). This is for age 21 and older. Cost is $42 members, $52 members, $10 lab fee.
- Ceramic Cookware will be held Saturdays, Jan. 11 and Jan. 18, from 3-5 p.m. Students must be able to throw a basic vessel. Cost is $84 members, $104 nonmembers, $15 lab fee.
- Dinner Setting — six-part intermediate pottery will cover cups, tumblers, bowls and plates. It meets Jan. 13, 20 and 27, and Feb. 3, 10 and 17, from 6-8 p.m. Cost is $252 members, $312 nonmembers, $15 lab fee.
- Two-part Intro to Altered Forms will cover how to change the shape of pots for more visual interest and variety. It meets Jan. 16 and Jan. 23 from 6-8 p.m. Cost is $84 members, $104 nonmembers, $10 lab fee.
