BAKER CITY — Start the new year with a tour through art shows at the First Friday art walk on Jan. 3 in Baker City. Here’s a look at what you’ll find.
Royal Artisan
1912 Main St.
Royal Artisan will showcase paintings by Amos Musoke, who lives in Kampala, Uganda, starting First Friday, Jan. 3. Musoke is one of the artists whose work can be found at the Art Roamers gallery, which represents many African artists.
D’Club L’Eveque will provide live music starting at 5 p.m., and Musoke will join via video from Uganda at 5:30 p.m. to talk about his work and answer questions. (It will be 4:30 a.m. in Africa.)
Jeff Jentzsch, who owns Art Roamers, said Musoke previously worked in IT for IBM and now works for a university.
Baker Food Co-op
2008 Broadway St.
The co-op will feature baked goods by Holly Powell of Eastside Bakery from 4-7 p.m.
Crossroads Carnegie Art Center
2020 Auburn Ave.
Crossroads will open the Emerging Artist Exhibition on Friday, Jan. 3 from 5-8 p.m.
The show celebrates “artists on the rise,” according to a press release. There will be a large display of artwork by Baker High School students, as well as emerging artists of all ages from all over the region.
Music will be provided by Morgan Stone.
Those attending will be entered into a drawing for a $25 gift certificate to Charley’s Deli and Ice Cream.
Churchill Hall Pass Gallery
3451 Broadway St.
Churchill will showcase work by Ren Foersterling on Friday, Jan. 3, starting at 5:30 p.m.
She will show acrylic and oil pastel paintings.
“I’m a self-taught painter who has an unfortunate habit of perpetual curiosity,” she said. “I will see a technique or style and just have to try it until I can figure it out.”
