HERMISTON — A local author will debut a brand-new children’s book this month at The Next Chapter Bookstore in Hermiston.

Hermiston author Aden Blake will celebrate the official launch of “Magical Mindset Glasses” during a release party on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at 1000 S. Highway 395 Suite C.

The brightly colored children’s book follows the main character, Milo, through a day when nothing goes right. When Milo’s best friend presents him with a pair of mysterious orange glasses, he discovers the spectacles have the power to change his perspective.

Copies of the book are available for pre-order now, both online and at The Next Chapter Bookstore in Hermiston. Copies will also be available for purchase during the launch party event.

“We’re really, really excited,” said Alexis McCarthy of The Next Chapter Bookstore. “He’s a good friend of ours and of the store, and this is the first time we’ve had an event that is the release party for a book.”

During the launch party, Blake will read the book, talk about his process in writing and publishing it, and answer questions from the audience. McCarthy said Blake also plans to talk about the inspiration behind the book and its characters.

“It’s about looking back at ‘negative memories’ with your magical mindset. It’s going to be a really good book for kiddos and the art is really vibrant,” she said.

Blake will also sign books during the event, and there will be free light refreshments. Additional beverages and pastries will be available for purchase at the store cafe and coffee bar.

The event is free, and McCarthy said they expect visitors of all ages.

“It will be fun,” she said. “Bring your friends.”
