The 2024 Go! Awards

My deeply gracious editor has allowed me to have additional fun assessing this past year’s films.

Here are the inaugural Go! Awards, recognizing the outstanding achievements of 2024 feature narrative releases in 17 categories.

Each category has a winner and a runner-up, including a few ties. All of these movies are worth a watch, so without further ado:

Best Makeup and Hair Design

Runner-Up: “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” — Lesley Vanderwalt, hair and makeup designer.

Winner: “Hit Man” — Tara Cooper and Ally Vickers, head of makeup department and head of hair department.

Best Costume Design

Runner-Up: “Love Lies Bleeding” — Olga Mill, costume designer.

Winner: “Hundreds of Beavers” — Casey Harris, costume designer.

Best Original Score

Runner-Up: “The Peasants” — Lukasz Rostowski, composer.

Winner: “Dune: Part Two” — Hans Zimmer, composer.

Best Music Direction

Runner-Up: “Riddle of Fire” — Stéphane Junk, music supervisor.

Winner: “I Saw the TV Glow” — Jessica Berndt and Chris Swanson, music. supervisors.

Best Visual Effects Work

Runner-Up: “Dune: Part Two” — Paul Lambert, visual effects production supervisor.

Winner (tie): “The Peasants” — Piotr Dominiak, Michal Janicki and Łukasz Mackiewicz, heads of animation and visual effects supervisor.

Winner (tie): “The People’s Joker” — Jake Myers and Jasperi Wirtanen, visual effects supervisors.

Best Stunt Work

Runner-Up: “Smile 2” — Frank Bal and Christopher Place, stunt coordinators.

Winner: “Monkey Man” — Brahim Chab and Udeh Nans, fight choreographer and stunt coordinator.

Best Production Design

Runner-Up: “Megalopolis” — Beth Mickle and Bradley Rubin, production designers.

Winner: “The Brutalist” — Judy Becker, production designer.

Best Sound Work

Runner-Up: “Conclave” — Ben Baird and Valentino Gianni, sound designer and sound mixer.

Winner: “Civil War” — Glenn Freemantle, sound designer and editor.

Best Editing

Runner-Up: “His Three Daughters” — Azazel Jacobs, editor.

Winner: “Origin” — Spencer Averick, editor.

Best Cinematography

Runner-Up: “Nosferatu” — Kharmel Cochrane, director of photography.

Winner: “Smile 2” — Charlie Sarroff, director of photography.

Best Screenplay (Adapted)

Runner-Up: “The People’s Joker” — Vera Drew, screenwriter.

Winner: “Chris Grace: as Scarlett Johansson” — Chris Grace, writer.

Best Screenplay (Original)

Runner-Up: “Drive-Away Dykes” — Ethan Coen and Tricia Cooke, screenwriters.

Best Performance (Supporting)
