Get ready to browse the book sale
BAKER CITY — Friends of the Baker County Library will have a winter book sale from Feb. 7-16 in the library’s Riverside Meeting Room, 2400 Resort St.
The sale will be open during the library’s regular hours: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Take a Valentine voyage Feb. 14-15
LA GRANDE — Le Bebe Cakes, 1101 Washington Ave., is hosting “Dead of the Winter Valentine Voyage: A Murder Mystery Dinner” on Feb. 14 and Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. Tickets are $50 and include a buffet and no-host bar. Costumes are encouraged and there are limited suspect roles and seats per voyage, so book your adventure at 541-963-2253 to guarantee a spot. This is for ages 18 and older.

HALFWAY — A winter market is planned for Saturday, Feb. 8, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Pine Valley Grange in Halfway.

Inland NW Musicians perform Feb. 16
BOARDMAN — The Inland Northwest Musicians will present its first concert of 2025 on Sunday, Feb. 16, 4 p.m. at the SAGE Center, 101 Olson Road.
The performance will consist of five pieces ranging from a trumpet-only piece “Storms Path” by Brian Balmages to March Slave Op. 31 by Tchaikovsky.
One of the more unique pieces is “The Merry-Go-Round of Life” by Joe Hisaishi from the popular Studio Ghibli movie “Howl’s Moving Castle.” The final piece is “Wellington’s Victory” by Beethoven.
The Inland Northwest Musicians is led by Music Director and Conductor R. Lee Friese and Associate Conductor Phillip Simpson. This concert is funded by Morrow County Unified Recreation District and sponsored by the SAGE Center.
The concert is free, with donations accepted at the door.
Cultural grants available in Grant County
GRANT COUNTY — The Juniper Arts Council/Grant County Cultural Coalition is seeking grant applications from Grant County organizations that promote the arts, arts education and/or cultural heritage.
Previous grant projects have included an artist-in-residence program at an elementary school, a community mural project, community hall rental payments for an organization to host monthly music events, professional classes on genealogy research, annual Quilts of Valor project, annual quilt show, concert by singer/songwriter Kerry Grombacher and development of a textile program at a local arts center.
The JAC/GCCC has approximately $9,000 to distribute throughout Grant County. For more information and to request a grant application, call 541-932-4892. Applications are due March 10, by 5 p.m. for consideration on March 13. Grants must be spent by Dec. 31, 2025.
Casino night raises money for scholarships
HALFWAY — A casino night fundraiser is planned for Sunday, Feb. 16, 7 p.m. at the Pine Valley Grange at the fairgrounds in Halfway. All proceeds support student scholarships and other youth-related agriculture projects.
The evening features tiered buy-in amounts at each table for blackjack and Texas Hold ‘Em. The winners split the pot with FFA alumni.
Alcohol and appetizers will be available for purchase from Cow Camp Catering and Cow Camp Saloon.
Free concert features classical music
WALLA WALLA — The music of Mozart, Schumann and Bruch will be performed by a clarinet-viola-piano trio during the First Thursday Concert Series in Walla Walla.
Ron Coleman, Emily Kurlinski Haun and Jan Roberts will play on Thursday, Feb. 6, 12:15-12:45 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 323 Catherine St. Attendees are invited to bring a bag lunch to enjoy while listening to music. Although the concert is free, donations are accepted for the Walla Walla Symphony.

Campus Life gets ready to hit the slopes
HERMISTON — Students in eighth through 12th grade are invited on a skiing/snowboarding outing with Hermiston Campus Life on Feb. 15 at Ski Bluewood, near Dayton, Washington. Participants will depart at 8 a.m. from the Campus Life building, 595 S. First St. After a full day on the slopes, the group will return to Hermiston around 7 p.m.
Registration is $20, which covers transportation by Campus Life staff, equipment rentals and gear, a lift ticket, lunch and lessons (if needed). Participants need to bring money for dinner.

BMCC Foundation hosts gala fundraiser
BOARDMAN — A gala fundraiser with a buffet dinner and auction will benefit the Blue Mountain Community College Foundation. The inaugural event is Feb. 22, 7 p.m. at the SAGE Event Center, 101 Olson Road, Boardman. Semi-formal attire is requested.
Items up for bid include National Finals Rodeo tickets, experiences featuring fishing, Jackalope Jamboree and the Tri-City Americans and packages from the Portland Trail Blazers, Walla Walla Balloon Stampede and Eagle Crest Resort. Money raised from the event will provide scholarships and grants to support BMCC students and programs.

Historical society meets Feb. 8
LA GRANDE — The Union County Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting on Saturday, Feb. 8, at the log cabin on the Union County Fairgrounds. There will be a potluck at noon, followed by a presentation at 1 p.m.
The focus will be rocks and minerals and attendees are invited to bring items of interest from their personal collections to share, including fossils and arrowheads. The public is invited to attend and participate in this “Rock Talk.”
