ISLAND CITY — Side A Brewing, 10705 S. Walton Road in Island City, will host two frosty February festivals — the seventh annual “Dead of Winter” beer fest on Feb. 15 and Zwicklemania on Feb. 22.

Partners Scott McConnell and Chef Travis Hansen, along with their head brewer, Travis Darney, welcome everyone to embrace the chill and warm their spirits at these upcoming community festivals.

The “Dead of Winter” beer fest welcomes the community 4-10 p.m. or so on Saturday, Feb. 15. Come bundled up in your favorite winter gear and gather around the fire pit in an evening of community, craft beer, music and food.

“This beloved winter tradition transforms frosty February into a cozy celebration filled with craft brews, fantastic food and unforgettable experiences,” McConnell said.

As always, there won’t be any cover charge, but to enjoy the beer, people will need to purchase a mug onsite and drink tokens. There will be a special bottle release featuring Baker City’s Gold Rush Malt’s last batch.

“This one is doing some heavy lifting for your tastebuds and will keep you warm this winter,” he said. “Also, be the first to taste our latest creations along with all your Side A favorites on tap.”

What’s a good beer without some great food to pair it with? Enjoy offerings from Side A Brewing’s on-site food truck, featuring a menu specially delivered by the talented kitchen staff from Side A Brewing’s Public House.

Music will be provided by the beats of DJ Charlie Vawter, keeping the energy high all night long. Also, test your gaming skills with classic games like cornhole and darts.

“Gather by the fire, roast marshmallows, and create memories with friends,” McConnell said.

Zwicklemania

Second on the calendar is Side A Brewing’s annual Zwicklemania on Feb. 22 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Zwicklemania traditionally celebrates the tasting of new craft beer out of its fermentation vessel. Its name comes from the German word “zwickle” which is the port that is inserted into the fermentation barrel or vessel for tasting purposes.

Side A Brewing’s Zwicklemania will celebrate its food and craft beer combo. Come and meet the brewer, Travis Darney, and taste his latest release along with other craft beers on tap in the tasting room.
