- ChildStew, a band of preteen musicians, will play Feb. 13 during a recital at the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture in Joseph.
JOSEPH — Young musicians under the instruction of two of the county’s most dynamic musicians and teachers, Amy Fairchild and Robyn Burns, will showcase their musical accomplishments in the annual Youth Music Recital on Thursday, Feb. 13, 6:30–8:30 p.m. at the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture, 403 N. Main St.
Admission is free, although donations will be accepted to support the Josephy Center.
Musical variety
Musical selections will include an eclectic variety of genres and periods: classical and pop, traditional folk tunes and musical theater, and a few surprises along the way.
Students, ages 8 to 16, will showcase their accomplishments in vocal performance as well as piano, violin, bass, ukulele and clarinet.
Solos, duet and collaborations
Fairchild and Burns encourage their students to explore their musical interests, guiding them as they advance their musical knowledge. Performance for all music students is a critical part of the learning experience. While some students prefer individual performance, others have begun to develop the skills for small group collaboration.
Each is well supported.
This year, one such collaborative effort has resulted in the band, ChildStew, a group of four pre-teen musicians exploring rock, pop and other genres.
ChildStew will perform at the recital, demonstrating the skills of musical collaboration and performance techniques as well as their individual musical abilities.
