- Pendleton Center for the Arts will open the 52nd open regional exhibit on March 14. Artists can submit works on March 8 at the center.
PENDLETON — Artists from across Northeast Oregon and southeast Washington are reminded to submit work for this year’s open regional exhibit at Pendleton Center for the Arts, 214 N. Main St.
The drop-off date of the artwork is Saturday, March 8, from noon to 4 p.m. The exhibit opens in the East Oregonian Gallery on Friday, March 14, with refreshments served at 5:30 p.m. and a judge’s critique and award ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.
This year marks the 52nd anniversary of the event, which brings beginning, emerging and established artists together to share their best work. Adults 18 and over may enter up to two pieces and a special teen category is available for artists 13-17 years old.
Accepted works include but are not limited to painting, printmaking, book arts, glass, sculpture, mixed media and fiber arts. Photography is the only medium not accepted.
While the exhibit is not juried, there are some limitations on size and weight which are outlined in the entry form, which can be found at PendletonArts.org.
Banner Bank of Pendleton is a long-time sponsor of the open regional show and contributes $1,200 in cash prizes that are awarded to artists in both the adult and teen categories. Visitors to the gallery also have an opportunity to vote for their favorite work and the winner will receive the Jacqueline Brown People’s Choice Award, made possible through the generosity of Kathryn Brown and Andrew Picken.
This year’s judge is Kendra Roberts, founder of Common Ground Arts, an arts consultancy curating visual art in traditional and non-traditional public spaces. As the designer and creator of Kendra Studio Jewelry, she is an award-winning artist and published writer and has exhibited her work throughout the U.S. and internationally. Her judge’s critique will provide insight into why selected works were singled out for awards and some professional development tips for artists looking to further their work.
The exhibit will be on view through April 25. Admission to the gallery is always free. Entry forms are available at Pendleton Center for the Arts or can be printed from the website, pendletonarts.org. More information is available online or by calling 541-278-9201.
