MILTON-FREEWATER — The Parent Circle is a new program started at the Milton-Freewater Public Library. The next event is Wednesday, Feb. 19, from 4:30-5:45 p.m.

Rhina Barahona, cataloger/adult services, is organizing the gathering and promotes it as “Let’s talk parenting, do crafts and meet other parents. Bring your kids!” She said it is for both parents and their children.

The February meeting will be a recipe swap and talk about cooking, along with making heart photo holders. The parents will be with Barahona in the Albee Room and the children will be with Connie Westman in another room doing crafts or an activity.

Each month the Parent Circle will do something different. In March, there will be a gentleman from the Horizon Project to explain what the program does, as well as a craft.

The library has many different programs for adults, from the book club to crafts and other projects, but they exclude children. There were parents who wanted to attend these events but didn’t have anyone to watch their children, so Library Director Lili Schmidt, Barahona and other staff wanted to find a way to include those adults. Parent Circle was born.

Parents, grandparents and children are all welcome to attend.

“It’s a great way for parents who can’t get out without their children to be able to see what the library has to offer and get to know other parents,” Barahona said. “And the children enjoy the time doing crafts.”

They hope to hold the event on the third Wednesday of each month.

The library is located at 8 SW Eighth Ave. Hours are Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
