BAKER CITY — After more than two years, Bitch is coming back to Baker City.

Or, if you prefer: the artist whose name starts with a “B” and rhymes with “witch.”

She chose her stage name in the 1990s.

“We all do crazy things in our 20s — and before the internet,” she said in a 2022 interview. “I named myself Bitch to reclaim a name that was used to insult powerful women.”

Her show at Churchill School is March 9, and this time she’s bringing Skip the Needle, a band based in Oakland, California.

“I’m so looking forward to sharing Baker City with Skip the Needle,” Bitch said. “I’m so excited we’re actually able to pull this off. It’s pretty special.”

A March show is perfect for this group of musicians, she said.

“We’ve been dreaming of this tour for awhile, and it happened to be during Women’s History Month,” she said. “We’re trying to bring an uplifting, feminist and empowering message to people who are feeling hopeless right now.”

The goal, said Skip the Needle’s Vicki Randle, is to focus on joy and community.

“Art is the thing that inspires people, gives people hope,” she said.

Bitch just wrapped up an off-Broadway run of her one-woman show “Bitchcraft,” based on songs of her most recent album.

“I’ve been working on this show for three years,” she said.

She describes the show as an autobiographical tale.

“It’s a wild broomstick ride through my life,” she said with a laugh.

The show ended March 1, and then she hit the road with Skip the Needle for a West Coast tour.

“We all know each other and have been friends for years now,” Bitch said.

Skip the Needle formed in 2014 and features Katie Cash, who joined Bitch at her 2022 show in Baker City, Vicki Randle, Shelley Doty and Kofy Brown. The band has released four records, and will perform songs from their newest EP “Wake Up Wake Up Wake Up” that releases March 7.

“Definitely come prepared to rock out and move,” Bitch said of Skip the Needle. “They are so inspiring to see live.”
