Cook Memorial Library

Cook Memorial offers two volunteer-led book clubs that meet monthly in the studio, located across from the main circulation desk at the library, 2006 Fourth St. in La Grande. Patrons may request copies of the featured books through interlibrary loan.

Here are details on the library’s book clubs:

Mysteries ‘n’ More Book Club

Running for around four years now, Cook Memorial Library’s Mysteries ‘n’ More book club primarily focuses on — you guessed it — mystery novels, although they’ve recently begun exploring other genres.

The group welcomes around a dozen members each month and welcomes new members anytime. Even if a reader hasn’t yet finished the book, they’re welcome to stop in to get a sense of whether or not the book club is right for them.

This club meets on the second Friday of the month at 1 p.m. at Cook Memorial Library, 2006 Fourth St. in La Grande.

Spells & Stars Book Club

The Spells and Stars Book Club started in November 2023. Volunteer-led, this group discusses science fiction and fantasy novels.

Their discussion varies between structured questions and open discussion. Ensuring everyone gets the chance to speak, the group talks about world-building and breaks down scenes and characters. New members are welcome anytime.

This club meets on the third Saturday of the month at 3 p.m.
