Grande Ronde Symphony presents chamber concert April 4 in La Grande

LA GRANDE — The Grande Ronde Symphony Association will present the second Chamber Series concert of the season on Friday, April 4.

As a part of its Noteworthy Chamber Music series, the concert will be presented at the home of William and Julie Pettit, 705 S. 18th St. in La Grande, at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $35 and are available online only at GrandeRondeSymphony.org. Include your email address to receive parking information.

Seating for this concert is limited to 30. Refreshments will be served.

Program

The first half of the program will feature the newly formed piano quintet members Emma Jones (violin), Carl Riehs (viola), Polly Gibson (cello), Earl Davis (double bass) and Cilla Coe (piano).

They will play three movements from Schubert’s “Piano Quintet in A major, D. 667.” This piece is popularly known as the “Trout quintet.” The group will play the first, third and fourth movements.

Cellist Zachary Banks will be the featured soloist for the second half of the concert. He’ll perform “Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major” by Johann Sebastian Bach and Gaspar Cassadó’s “Suite for Solo Cello.”

Banks, who lives in Pendleton, has been the conductor of the Grande Ronde Symphony Orchestra since 2018, and is the education director and assistant conductor for the Pendleton-based Oregon East Symphony. He performs with numerous regional symphonies, at chamber music festivals and as principal cellist for Oregon East Symphony.
