Spring Break is half over here in Oregon. Have you run out of things to do with your kids? Need ideas or a place to take them? Don’t want to spend a lot of money? The libraries in Umatilla County have a solution for you!
The 12 libraries around the county always have so much to offer. If nothing else, it’s a new venue to go and hang out for a while. Each library offers open doors, a warm (or cool) space to be, books, magazines, computers, games (board games, computer games, some video games), craft items and toys to occupy your mind and body.
These offerings are available every day and there is always a library staff member or two if you need another human to chat with. In addition, many libraries offer special events throughout the week of spring break in case your kid wants to try something new.
Pendleton Public Library
Special events at the Pendleton Public Library this week include:
Wednesday, March 26: A Crime Scene puzzle themed to Middle Earth at 5:30 p.m.
Friday, March 28: Teen night at the Rec Center from 6-8 p.m.
Milton-Freewater
In addition to being an excellent place to go any day of the week, they are offering adult bingo night at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, for adults who might need a night out.
Umatilla Public Library
The staff at the Umatilla Public Library are hosting a special event each day at noon for kids:
Wednesday, March 26: Sewing Basics
Thursday, March 27: Coding with Scratch Jr.
Friday, March 28: Mini Drone Challenge
Hermiston Public Library
In Hermiston, spring break won’t happen for another week and half, and while the library in Hermiston is still undergoing an amazing remodel of the main building, they have books, CDs, and movies to check out as well as programs happening during the week of their spring break, April 7-11.
Chess club meets Wednesday, April 9, from 3-4 p.m., and story time is happening on Friday, April 11, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Check out Hermiston City Hall across the street from the library for these events.
Libraries offer a multitude of services day in and day out. Spring break is an excellent time to check out the spaces and offerings at the library closest to you. Get your kids out of the house, find a new activity, and check out your next book at the library!
