ENTERPRISE — The 19th season of Tunesmith Night, a program of the Wallowa Valley Music Alliance, continues with a session on Saturday, April 12, at the Odd Fellows Hall, 105 NE First St.
Tunesmith Night is a showcase of original music that features three songwriters sharing their original work in a round-robin format.
“The unique listening space provides an up-close and intimate experience for both audience and performers,” said Janis Carper, executive director of the Wallowa Valley Music Alliance.
The April 12 concert features songwriters Neal Goldberg, Kay Miracle and David Henry.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with music starting at 7 p.m. Admission is $10, and beverage service is available.
This edition of Tunesmith Night is sponsored by Randi Jandt and Jon Larson.
The songwriters
Neal Goldberg is a guitarist and singer-songwriter upholding the spirit of a vagabond and storyteller. He’s played in cafes, clubs, bars, street corners and amphitheaters on four different continents.
Described as “edgy, raw and spontaneous,” Goldberg’s original songs are about heartache, failure, love and home, all mixed in with the current socio-economic pressures of the times. A composer, arranger, producer, teacher and most of all, a performer, he has been playing for more than 20 years. A distinct blend of old school blues, jazz and American folk, his guitar-playing has infamously made many cry in joy.
Kay Miracle began her singing/songwriting journey at a young age, playing in bands during college in Washington state, USO military tours, and ending up in central New York.
As the lead singer, rhythm guitarist and songwriter for the alternative country band Reckless Drivin’, she took home a total of five SAMMY’s (awards honoring Syracuse’s local artists); two that were awarded to Miracle personally as “Best Country Vocalist.” She also showcased her original songs with Americana duo/bands Kay & the Miracle Cure and the Ghost Town Ramblers. She has released three CDs, which have aired worldwide.
She founded a program called “Blood to Ink” to work with veterans through songwriting, and also assists teens and seniors with finding their authentic voice by telling their unique stories through song. Her story has been featured on the PBS series, “Inside the Story.”
With driving guitar, roots-laden vocals and a strong sense of knowing the power of a good lyrical hook, Miracle has a portfolio of more than 200 original songs she is constantly recording as a soloist and with band projects across the country. Find out more at www.kaymiracle.com.
David Henry has been touring and playing the Pacific Northwest and beyond for the last 15 years, cutting his teeth with groups like Jonathan Warren and the Billy Goats, as well as the Andrew Sheppard Band and The Pan Handles.
He started his own project, David Henry Band, and has enjoyed writing and performing music for the last five years with some of the best musicians Idaho has to offer. His songwriting is influenced heavily by the 1960s-’70s folk scene, along with old-school Texas and Idaho country — melodies from the heart pushed by four chords and the truth.
