BAKER CITY — David Henry always wanted to be a musician, and his life has included both opera singing and musical theater.

“I’ve studied music my whole life,” he said.

He’s a touring musician these days, based in Boise, and this weekend there are several chances to catch his music in Eastern Oregon.

The first is Friday, April 11, at Barley Brown’s taproom, 2200 Main St. in Baker City. The show starts at 7 p.m., and this venue is for 21-plus.

His next appearances are for Tunesmith Night on Saturday, April 12, 7 p.m. at the Odd Fellows Hall in Enterprise, then Sunday, April 13, 6-8 p.m. at Terminal Gravity in Enterprise.

Henry played with Jonathan Warren and the Billy Goats for about a decade, and now tours the Pacific Northwest as a solo act, although sometimes as a duo, trio or full band. In the winter, Henry stays closer to home and plays more weekend shows, including at ski resorts.

“I like to ski, so I can do both,” he said.

He often plays around Boise, as well.

As for his songwriting, Henry describes it as “eclectic” with a country Americana vibe influenced heavily by the 1960-1970s folk scene as well as old-school Texas country.

“More folky on one song, soul on another, country on another song,” he said.

His music is available on Spotify, and he’s planning to release his first album in June, although some of his original songs are featured on Billy Goats albums, as well.
