COVE — Cove Education Foundation’s annual Spring Run Off 5K and 1-mile fun run will start at the Cove Ascension School in Cove on Saturday, April 26, to raise money to support Cove students and teachers.

“Registration begins at 9 a.m. that day, and the race starts at 10 a.m.,” Cove School Board member Lori Shields said. “Meet at the Cove Ascension School in Cove.”

This is a family event for young and old alike. Some may choose to run the 5K race and others, like the kids, may choose the 1-mile fun run.

“You can register at 9 a.m. on the day of the run,” Shields said, “or you can pre-register at itsyourrace.com.”

The adult price for the race is $30, and for youths 18 and under, it will cost $15 per person. There is a route map on the website as well.

The 1-mile course and part of the 5K will take runners through the Umatilla Loop of the Tish Croom Nature Trail, recently featured on OPB. This scenic dirt path runs along the edge of town, offering beautiful mountain views. The race will happen rain or shine, so dress accordingly, the website advises.

The event will be professionally chip-timed by Eastern Oregon Sports Training. Family supporters and spectators may choose to watch along the route and cheer your runner along. The race is designed for everyone, from kids to grandparents and parents to the seasoned athletes.

Since this is a fundraiser, it’s important to know that after the race expenses are paid, 100% of the proceeds go to benefit the Cove students and teachers.

“We hope to see everybody come out and support Cove students and educators on this wonderful spring day as we run through the streets of Cove,” Shields said.

The Cove Education Foundation is a charitable, nonprofit organization that awards scholarships to Cove High School graduates. To date, those scholarships have amounted to more than $66,000. The foundation also awards at least $1,500 in classroom grants each school year for classroom enhancements and curriculum enrichment.

Community donations in any amount are greatly appreciated. If you would like to join the team of sponsors, see more information on coveeducationfoundation.org.
