EASTERN OREGON — Before you sit down to a holiday meal this Thanksgiving, consider signing up for a local fun run/walk to support a local organization.

You will burn some calories, get some fresh air and help your neighbors — all before noon!

Baker City

The 17th annual Turkey Trot run/walk to Feed the Hungry is on Thanksgiving, Nov. 28, in downtown Baker City. This event is held rain, snow or sunshine.

The event starts at 9 a.m. at Central Park (note the new location). Participants are asked to bring a nonperishable food item to benefit the Northeast Oregon Compassion Center. Entry is $15. Either register in advance by Nov. 24 at noccbaker.org or same-day registration begins at 7:45 a.m.

The route heads north to Hughes Lane, then back along the Leo Adler Memorial Parkway to finish back in Central Park.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers plus the top three teams.

The Turkey Trot supports the Compassion Center, which opened in November 2000. It provides food, clothing and other community services. For information, visit noccbaker.org.
