The Clements Brothers live in New England and are touring the West Coast. They play Jan. 21 in Baker City.

BAKER CITY — Identical twins George and Charles Clements grew up listening to The Beatles, and in sixth grade, they performed “Hide Your Love Away.”

“Charles played the melody on recorder,” George said.

Although The Beatles were a common soundtrack in their home, their older brothers also introduced them to Jimi Hendrix, REM and Pearl Jam.

They wanted to play music themselves.

“Ever since I saw The Beatles perform — not live, obviously — I thought that’s the job for me,” George said. “It was always my dream to play music for people.”

Both brothers went to school for music. Charles took the orchestra path, while George focused on bluegrass, and played in “The Lonely Heartstrings Band.”

Then George asked Charles to join the band. The group released “Deep Waters” in 2016, and “Smoke & Ashes” in 2019.

In 2020, the brothers joined as a duo to be The Clements Brothers with George on guitar and Charles on upright bass. They didn’t live in the same place at the time, so would meet for writing retreats.

“Trying to figure out our new style out of the bluegrass world,” George said.

They’ve been touring since 2021.

“We’re just getting going,” Charles said.

They’ve toured along the East Coast, and as far west as Kansas City. Now they are striking out for a West Coast tour for shows in Oregon, California and Washington.

“We’re really excited about it,” Charles said.

It’s not, however, their first time in the west — they’ve played in a variety of venues with The Lonely Heartstrings Band.

It is, however, their first time to play in Baker City. They’ll be joined by drummer Pele Greenberg.

Their show is on Sunday, Jan. 21, at Churchill School, 3451 Broadway St. The doors open at 6 p.m., and Desirae Bronson opens the show at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $20 in advance at churchillbaker.com or $28 at the door. Admission is free for age 15 and younger with a paid adult.
