EASTERN OREGON — Towns across the region are gearing up to celebrate the Fourth of July in all sorts of ways — fun runs, parades, rodeos and, of course, fireworks.
BAKER COUNTY
Haines
Rodeo action is the highlight of the holiday in Haines with two days of events at the Haines Stampede rodeo grounds. Action starts July 3 with slack at 9 a.m. and the rodeo at 5 p.m.
Activities ramp up early on July 4 with a cowboy breakfast (7-10 a.m.) and the Independence Day fun run/walk at 8 a.m. that benefits the Baker High School track and cross country teams. Entry is $25, or $10 for ages 10 and younger.
Vendors open in the park at 9 a.m., and the parade heads down the main street at 10 a.m.
The rodeo starts up again at 1:30 p.m., and the day finishes with fireworks at dusk.
The Haines Stampede features traditional rodeo events, plus contests for kids. Tickets are available at the gate — $15 adults, $5 ages 6-11 and free for 5 and younger.
Halfway
Halfway kicks off the holiday festivities at 10 a.m. with a Lions Club fundraising auction at the Pine Valley Fairgrounds exhibit hall. Doors open at 9 a.m.
In the afternoon, entries can line up for the parade at 5 p.m. at Halfway Elementary School. The parade starts at 6 p.m. and follows Main Street.
The concessions stand at the fairgrounds opens at 6 p.m. with hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, corn dogs, chips and beverages, and the VFW beer garden starts serving at 6:30 p.m.
The Baker City Allstars will play live from 6:30-9 p.m., and in the middle of the set is the pie auction at 7:30 p.m. with auctioneer Mib Dailey. Proceeds from the auction fund the fireworks show every year.
The day ends with fireworks at dusk. This celebration is sponsored by the Pine Valley Fair Association, Hells Canyon Chamber and Pine Valley Rural Fire Protection District.
GRANT COUNTY
Dayville
Start July 4 early in Dayville with breakfast at the Community Church at 7 a.m.
Registration for the classic car show starts at 9 a.m. at city hall, and parade entries line up at 9:15 a.m. (there are three divisions — motorized, nonmotorized and kids).
The parade starts at 10 a.m. (grand marshals are Chuck and Ruthie Moore), immediately followed by the Jake Streeter Memorial Classic Car Show.
The rest of the day features an auction at 11:30 a.m., a hometown treasure hunt at city hall at noon and a jackpot horseshoe tournament at 12:15 p.m.
Later, music starts at 3:30 p.m. at the Fish House Inn with a beer garden and food.
Festivities continue on July 5 with music by Henry and the Repeaters at Dayville Community Hall. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the music runs from 8-10 p.m. Food and beverages will be available.
Monument
Monument is pulling out all the stops for its “Fourth of July Fun Festival.”
Here’s the day’s schedule of activities all of which will be in the city’s park, unless otherwise noted:
• 8-10 a.m.: Start the big day with a biscuits-and-gravy breakfast.
• 9:30 a.m.: Vendors with a variety of crafts, foods, jewelry and more will be open for the day.
• 10 a.m.: Parade! This year’s grand marshal is native Monument rancher Archie Osburn. There will be four categories: motorized, non-motorized, horses and kids. Call Miranda Carlin at 541-620-2080 for details and to get your entry signed up.
• Noon: Games for kids of all ages.
• 1 p.m.: Cornhole tournament. The entry fee is $20 per team. Equipment will be provided.
• 4 p.m.: 50/50 duck race. Ducks are $5 each or $20 for five. The race in the North Fork John Day starts at the bridge east of town and ends before the rapids. Winners do not have to be present to win and will be announced before the auction.
• 5 p.m.: Dessert and live auction.
• Dusk: Fireworks display from Archie Osburn’s property will be visible anywhere in town.
Prairie City
Prairie City’s holiday starts early with a fun run/walk at 8 a.m. — the start and finish are at Depot Park. Entry is by donation.
A parade with the theme “Freedom in a Small Town” starts at noon on Front Street. Entries should sign up by July 3 at City Hall.
A pie baking contest and auction is also planned with prizes — enter two pies on July 4 between 10-11 a.m. at the community center. Pie judging is at 2 p.m., and the silent auction runs from 1-4 p.m. Proceeds support the Greater Prairie City Community Association.
A duck race starts at 3 p.m. with a $500 grand prize awaiting the winner. Ducks are $5 each or $25 for six. The race in the John Day River starts at the Main Street bridge and ends at Bridge Street. Proceeds benefit the Prairie City High School volleyball team.
MORROW COUNTY
Boardman
The Boardman Fourth of July Celebration will get a sizzling start with the Riverside FFA Country Breakfast at 7 a.m. (cost $10) in the pavilion at Boardman Marina Park, 1 Marine Drive. And a kickball tournament kicks off at 8 a.m.
The celebration shifts to Main Street for the parade at 11 a.m. — then, it’s back to the park for a full afternoon of family-friendly festivities, including kids activities, food booths and artisan vendors, as well as axe throwing and a mechanical bull.
DJ Kora will spin tunes throughout the day. Afternoon live music features Juanantonio Lomas, Victory Swig and headliner Zac Grooms. A fireworks show will fill the night sky over the Columbia River at 10 p.m.

Ione
People are invited to Get Fired Up! for Ione’s Fourth of July Celebration, starting with the annual fireman’s breakfast at 7 a.m. at the fire hall. Also, a 5K fun run/walk begins at 7:30 a.m.
A variety of activities start at 11 a.m. in/around Ione City Park, including children’s games, a fish pond, face painting, food/vendor booths and a car show.
KnockerBall Tri-Cities will provide free games in the afternoon. The parade lineup begins at 12:30 p.m. (for questions, call/text 541-519-3371).

Hermiston
The annual Stars & Stripes Fourth of July Celebration features a full afternoon of family-friendly fun from 3-10:30 p.m. at Butte Park, 1245 NW Seventh St.
The event features food and vendor booths, live entertainment, outdoor games and more. The event crescendos with a fireworks display shot off at 10 p.m. from the top of the Hermiston Butte. Watch for flaggers, who will direct traffic after the show.

Milton-Freewater
Kick off the holiday early at the Milton-Freewater firefighters annual breakfast fundraiser on July 4, 7-10 a.m. at Yantis Park. The cost is $10 per person, or $5 for ages 12 and younger. Cash, check and cards are accepted. Breakfast includes pancakes, bacon, eggs, coffee and juice.
Also, the 4th of July 5K Freedom Walk/Run, hosted by the Pioneer People Mac-Hi Booster Club, will start and end at Yantis Park, 200 DeHaven St. Registration is from 7:30-8:45 a.m. with the race starting at 9 a.m. Cost is $25 per person.
Pioneer People is a booster club for McLoughlin High School. The group consists of parents, school district employees, and members of the community. These volunteers support and encourage student excellence in education, club participation and athletics. Pendleton
• Get your heart pumping and help Hope with Options Pregnancy Care Center during Run for Life: Freedom 5K Fun Run & Walk. The event runs from 8-10 a.m. at Roy Raley Park and the Pendleton River Parkway. It includes family activities, children’s games and refreshments for participants.

• VFW Let’er Buck Post 922 is hosting the Fourth of July Parade. It begins at 10 a.m. at Pendleton City Hall, continuing along Main Street and Court Avenue to the Pendleton Convention Center. Show off your red, white and blue for a chance to win the VFW Patriot Trophy, which will be awarded to the entry with the most votes.
A community celebration follows from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Roy Raley Park, 1205 SW Court Ave. Activities include a chalk walk art competition, face painting, a dunk tank, an Altrusa book giveaway, and adopt-a-pet with the Pendleton Animal Welfare Shelter.
A variety of yard games will include cornhole, Jenga, bean bag toss, connect four, hula hoops and more. Food trucks will be onsite. The fireworks show will illuminate the sky at 10 p.m. near Walmart, 2203 SW Court Ave.

Stanfield
The Stanfield Walking Group is hosting the 4th of July Fun Run to raise money for the Stanfield Walking Path Project. Registration ($20) begins at 7 a.m. at Bard Park; with the run starting at 7:30 a.m. For questions, call the Stanfield Public Library at 541-449-1254.
The parade gets going at 10 a.m., followed by a pie baking contest at 10:30 a.m.
The fun moves to Bard Park at 11 a.m. The 2024 Duck Race will benefit the Stanfield class of 2025 — buy tickets ($5 each) from students or their parents, at the library or Main Street Market. The ducks will be unleashed at 12:30 p.m. in the ditch at Bard Park. Cash prizes range from $50-$250.

UNION COUNTY
Imbler
The traditional Fourth of July parade in Imbler will start at noon. Entries can line up at the Imbler High School parking lot. Immediately following the parade, all are invited to the Imbler Christian Church, 440 Ruckman Ave., for a free picnic. Enjoy free hot dogs, watermelon, chips and soda in the shade.
Union
Head to Union on the Fourth of July where a cornhole tournament starts at 5 p.m. at the Baptist Church on South Main Street — registration is $25 and cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place teams. Also, vendors will be set up on Main Street from 6-9:30 p.m.
The holiday culminates with Thunder at the Peak featuring music and fireworks at Buffalo Peak Golf Course at 10 p.m.
WALLOWA COUNTY
Joseph
The Fourth of July tradition of Shake the Lake again happens July 4 with fireworks at the north end of Wallowa Lake. Music by Wicked Mary starts at 6 p.m., and the fireworks begin at 10 p.m.
Wallowa
Wallowa will host a Fourth of July celebration with a parade at 11 a.m. (entries need to sign up by noon on July 3 by calling city hall, 541-886-2422.)
The day also features food vendors, a flea market and music by No Boundaries.
