BAKER CITY — The First Friday art walk on Oct. 4 opens new shows across Baker City, so take a stroll and find jewelry, paintings, photography and more.

Baker Food Co-op

2008 Broadway St.

The co-op will feature jewelry by Chris Cantrell, along with drone photography by Adam, from 4-7 p.m. during the First Friday art walk.

Churchill Hall Pass Gallery3451 Broadway St.

Nancy Zelick is the featured artist at Churchill for October. She will display photographs she captured with her iPhone. The show opens Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Zelick grew up in Gresham and now lives in Baker City. She doesn’t approach her photography with a plan — instead, she captures images when she’s inspired by a scene.

“I’m not the type that plans what I’m going to photograph,” she said. “I’m a spontaneous snapper.”

Royal Artisan

1912 Main St.

Royal Artisan will host a show titled “Bohn-Voyage” starting First Friday, Oct. 4, at 5:30 p.m.

The show features watercolors, oils and acrylics by sisters Kate and Jane Bohn, who were both born and raised in Baker City and have created art for more than 50 years.

Crossroads Carnegie Art Center

2020 Auburn Ave.

Crossroads Carnegie Art Center opens “Spanning Time, Paintings in Wax” on Friday, Oct. 4, 5-8 p.m.

The show features Leah Svendsen and Will Roundy, who will each display their own style of encaustic artwork.

The artists grew up together in Wallowa County and attended Joseph schools from kindergarten through graduation. They’ve remained close, and run businesses across the street from each other. They both studied with Shawn Moore in Whitefish, Montana, and share a passion for encaustic art.

Svendsen received a bachelor’s from Lewis and Clark College in Portland with a concentration in painting. Her work comments on time concepts through representational works and is greatly inspired by her surroundings in the Wallowa Mountains. Her business, a gallery and home décor shop, also houses her studio.

Roundy has owned beecrowbee in Joseph for 25 years, and makes bath and beauty products. His encaustic paintings are displayed throughout the store, making it an art gallery as well.

Their show will be on exhibit through Oct. 26.

The Cheese Fairy

1937 Main St.

Mary Davies Kerns will exhibit paintings from her new guinea hen series, plus several other new paintings of Eastern Oregon. The opening reception is 5-7 p.m.
