Heritage Station Museum offers a variety of displays, including the exhibit “Umatilla Gold: History of Wheat in Umatilla County.” The museum’s first Heritage Club Gala is Saturday, Aug. 5.

PENDLETON — Heritage Station Museum is rolling out a new fundraiser this summer and inviting everyone to “celebrate the ‘20s like it’s the 1920s.”

The Heritage Club Gala is happening Saturday, Aug. 5, from 7-10 p.m. at the museum, 108 SW Frazer Ave.

Tickets are $35, or $30 for members, and available in the museum’s gift shop and online at heritagestationmuseum.org. Also, check the museum’s Facebook page for updates.

“We wanted a summer event, and we’re hoping this will take over as our major fundraiser,” said Shannon Gruenhagen, marketing and tour coordinator for the museum.

The gala supports the Umatilla County Historical Society, which runs the museum. Fundraisers such as the gala help support educational programs, workshops, updates to exhibits and the materials needed to preserve historic artifacts.

The museum

Heritage Station Museum is located in the 1909 train station in downtown Pendleton. In addition to the wheat exhibit, titled “Umatilla Gold: History of Wheat in Umatilla County,” the Depot Gallery display celebrates the county’s history.

Other elements include a railroad display, a newspaper printing press, and signs from local businesses. Outside exhibits include the Byrd Schoolhouse relocated from near Pilot Rock, and the Fix family cabin and barn.

The museum has special events throughout the year, as well. A spring artisan market and pioneer day were held in early June, and each month features special “Terrific Tuesday” talks (the next is July 11). Later in the year, the museum turns spooky for Heritage Haunt on Oct. 31, and in December the grounds are illuminated for Heritage Lights every Friday and Saturday night.

Yearly memberships are $50 individual, $70 family and $100 for a business. Benefits include free admission to the museum, two guest passes, discounts and more. Learn more at heritagestationmuseum.org.
