BAKER CITY — Food, music and all the animals you’d want to see can be found at the Baker County Fair, Aug. 9-12 at the fairgrounds in Baker City, 2600 East St.
“We have quite a few vendors this year,” said Kylie Siddoway, who is working as the fair intern this summer.
The fair will be open to the public from 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Tuesday through Friday. Admission is free.
Animals are a mainstay of the county fair, and visitors can see a variety of showings throughout the week.
“There’s something going on all day,” Siddoway said.
Wednesday is full of market classes, and Thursday is for showmanship.
The grand champion market animals are chosen starting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10. The showmanship round robin is held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11.
The livestock auction starts at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12. It is preceded by the buyers’ dinner at 4 p.m.
Music
Two free concerts are planned this year, both held on the grassy area of the fairgrounds. The first is Frank Carlson, who plays from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.
Olivia Harms takes the stage Thursday, starting at 7 p.m. Barley Brown’s will have a beer garden from 4-9 p.m. both nights.
Vendors
Fairgoers will have a selection of food to choose from. The 4-H concessions stand will be open all week, and there will be vendors offering treats such as shaved ice and cotton candy.
“We have quite a few vendors this year,” Siddoway said.
Also, The Express will be on site (the new mobile food truck of what was formerly the Frontier Express restaurant), and Campbell’s Catering and Sweets will be offering a variety of confections.
Non-food vendors will sell apparel and other products, including Honest Nevada, Broken Box Ranch and Ball Park Prints.
The Baker County Fair premium book has a detailed schedule of the week’s events. It can be found online at www.bakerfair.com. Also, highlights are posted on the fair’s Facebook page — search for “Baker County Fairgrounds, Conference & Event Center.”
