Nobody made it eight seconds on a bull at Mountain High Broncs & Bulls June 26, 2021, but Damon Shaw of Lewiston, Idaho, turned in one of the best attempts in the finals onboard Hawkeye. This year’s event is June 18 at Harley Tucker Arena in Joseph.

JOSEPH — Mountain High Broncs & Bulls is moving the action to Joseph on Saturday, June 18.

The rodeo highlighting the hairiest of events — bull and ranch bronc riding and wild horse racing — will be held at the Harley Tucker Memorial Arena in Joseph for the first time in its 17-year history.

The evening events begin with mutton busting at 4:30 p.m., followed by the grand entry at 5 p.m. Interspersed among the main events are clown acts, the Kids Sheep Challenge, Mountain High Broncs and Bulls Drill Team and a round of bull poker, including members of the audience.

Admission is free. Food and beverage vendors will be onsite.

This year, for the first time, a woman bronc rider will compete, Katie Brown from Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

All told, Lee Daggett, a member of the board of directors, said 30 professional cowboys are signed up for bronc and bull riding as well as nine wild horse racing teams. He said eight kids between the ages of 8 and 13 have registered for the mini bronc riding — competing for a Montana Silversmiths belt buckle.

A big-screen TV at the end of the arena will broadcast all the action and show instant replays after each ride. Daggett said the rodeo will be televised for those viewing from home on Cowboy Channel+.

The purse is sitting at about $12,000, Daggett said, with about $8,500 in added money from the rodeo’s sponsors.

For the first time in the rodeo’s history, Daggett is handing the microphone over to pro rodeo announcer William “Bull” Demers. Bantering with Demers from the arena will be this year’s barrel man, Tuffy Gessling.
