EOU cheerleaders participate in the 2019 Homecoming parade. This year’s version is on Friday, Oct. 8, in downtown La Grande. Festivities continue with a fun run/walk on Saturday, and multiple athletic events Saturday and Sunday.

LA GRANDE — Students returned to the Eastern Oregon University campus on Sept. 20 for the 92nd academic year, and Homecoming is right around the corner with several events, including the traditional parade on Friday, Oct. 8.

Area businesses and organizations are invited to join students, faculty and staff in the parade. Visit www.eou.edu/alumni/homecoming and click “Homecoming Parade” to download the application. Return the completed form to University Advancement in Inlow Hall 212 before 5 p.m. on Oct. 8.

Lineup is at 4:15 p.m. on the corner of Fourth Street and Jefferson Avenue. The parade begins at 5 p.m. and proceeds along Adams Avenue through downtown to Hemlock Street. For more information, call 541-962-3740 or email alumni@eou.edu.

Following the parade, at 6:30 p.m., the Alumni Association will honor Kale Cockett, distinguished alumnus, along with Jer Pratton, Dixie Lund Service Award recipient, and Bob Stubbs, honorary alumnus.

Also, the 1980 baseball team will be inducted into EOU’s Athletics Hall of Fame. In-person attendance is limited.

EOU Homecoming Run/Walk: Oct. 9

The run and walk to celebrate Homecoming is Saturday, Oct. 9. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m., and the race starts at 8 a.m. The run begins at the Hoke Union Building on EOU and continues through downtown La Grande.

Choose your distance: 1 mile; 5K run or walk; 10K run.

Entry is $20 per person. Cash or check only.

Finish the race back at Hoke and breakfast will be provided in the Gilbert Center.
