The historic Echo library, nestled inside the historic Echo City Hall building, located in the historic city of Echo, recently received some brand-new updates.
The space has been cleared out, painted, moved around, received new flooring, a new 3D printer and engraver, and in general exhibits a new air of excitement following renovations thanks to a library technology grant.
The library, which opened inside the Echo City Hall in 1917, has a whole new look. The desk and checkout area were moved to the opposite side of the room, allowing for a more direct and clear entry into the library. The new flooring is light and bright and will allow for more activities and kids in the space. While the library still has its historic charm (vintage carpet, high windows, amazing native American artifacts gracing the walls), the space is open and ready for community use.
And the staff at the Echo Library are gearing up to use it! With more space to work with, Anna Lemmon, the person in charge of all things library, is preparing a full summer slate of activities to draw regular patrons, as well as new ones, into the library.
They will kick off with an Easter-themed bingo night on Saturday, April 26, from 4-7 p.m. This will serve as a fundraiser for the summer reading activities. The event is a community-wide event for all ages and there are lots of prizes to be had.
They have regular craft activities every week on Thursdays at 2 p.m., and coming next month is a paint night at 6 p.m. May 22.
The kickoff for summer reading will be a retro game night on June 23, again for all ages, to go along with the “Level Up your library” summer theme. Once summer reading starts, the staff are planning events every Monday at 6 p.m., Tuesdays at 2 p.m., Thursdays at 6 p.m. and Fridays at 2 p.m.
If that isn’t enough, there will be an ongoing Hide & Seek game around town to find the statue of “Echo,” the town’s mascot, and a “Find Dave” game in the library daily. If you don’t know Dave, stop by the library to meet him!
The staff could not be happier with the changes. They are thankful for the added safety and security, the ability to draw people more directly into the library, and the overall ability to serve their patrons better.
